Project Instructions
Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Mokume Gane accent- Sheet all four clay colors through the clay conditioning machine on the #1 setting. Make a square of each color about 1.5" X 1.5". Stack the colors up from bottom to top Poppy Seed, Igloo, Cowboy, and then Sandcastle.
Roll over the stack of colors with the acrylic roller until it becomes a sheet about 2" X 2". Cut the sheet into four equal sections and re-stack them.
Repeat step 2 so that you have a new stack with thin layers.
Score lines through the clay stack using the needle tool.
Push the stack back into shape with your fingers. Roll over the top of the stack gently with the acrylic roller just until it is smooth again but you can still see the score lines.

Roll the Poppy Seed clay into a ball and place into the medium round shape in the cabochon mold. Press the ball firmly into the mold to cover the entire area of the mold. Carefully slide the Super Slicer blade along the surface of the mold to remove the excess clay.
Push the ring finding straight down into the black clay while the clay is still in the mold. Sink the finding in until the outside clay starts to raise up higher than the flat back of the finding. Gently shape the excess clay around the back of the finding so that it is hidden from view from the sides. Gently remove the finding with the clay on it from the mold. Smooth any rough spots around the edges with your fingers.
Sheet Cowboy clay on the #4 setting. Make a strip that is ½” wide and lay it across the Poppy Seed cabochon even with the ring sides. Trim the excess edges.
Trim the mokume gane accent piece so that it is narrower than the Cowboy strip. Place the accent piece centered across the middle of the Cowboy strip.
Cut two pieces of ball chain that are the same length as the accent piece. Imbed them gently along each edge of the accent piece. Bake according to directions above.
