Project Instructions
Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Cover Your Base
•From your sample pack, choose the base color for your bookends (Jade is shown).
•Condition the entire color you have chosen for your project.
•Roll the clay through the 4th largest setting of your pasta machine.
•Apply a very thin layer of TLS to the top portion of your wooden block.
•Place the clay down on the top of the block.
•Trim the edges to fit your block using your Super Slicer.
•Use the medium ball tool or another tool to lightly texture the clay.
•From your sample pack, choose the base color for your bookends (Jade is shown).
•Condition the entire color you have chosen for your project.
•Roll the clay through the 4th largest setting of your pasta machine.
•Apply a very thin layer of TLS to the top portion of your wooden block.
•Place the clay down on the top of the block.
•Trim the edges to fit your block using your Super Slicer.
•Use the medium ball tool or another tool to lightly texture the clay.
Create the Bear
•Dividing the Clay
•Using the “Cowboy” color from your set, fully condition it on the 2nd largest setting of your pasta machine.
•If you want a darker, richer brown color, add a pinch of “Poppy Seed” clay.
•Cut off the uneven final edge of your sheet to use for ears & extra details later.
•Cut the remaining sheet as follows:
•Cut off 1/3 of the block from the right and divide it into four equal portions (one for each arm & leg).
•Take the remaining section on the left and divide it into a 2/3 and 1/3 portion.
•Dividing the Clay
•Using the “Cowboy” color from your set, fully condition it on the 2nd largest setting of your pasta machine.
•If you want a darker, richer brown color, add a pinch of “Poppy Seed” clay.
•Cut off the uneven final edge of your sheet to use for ears & extra details later.
•Cut the remaining sheet as follows:

•Preparing the Bear Pieces
•Take each of your four small squares from the right side and roll each into a ball.
•Then roll each section into a teardrop.
•For the large section on the left roll a large rounded teardrop.
•For the smaller section on the right, roll a ball for his head.
•Take each of your four small squares from the right side and roll each into a ball.
•Then roll each section into a teardrop.
•For the large section on the left roll a large rounded teardrop.
•For the smaller section on the right, roll a ball for his head.
•Make A Lighter Brown for Details
•Cut off a small portion of your brown color you set aside and add some “igloo” to make a lighter brown shade for your bear details.
•Fully combine these two colors until there are no streaks remaining.
•Roll this color mix on the 3rd thinnest setting on your pasta machine.
•Using an oval cutter just smaller than your bear body, set aside the remaining light brown for later.
•Use your finger to gently adhere the oval onto the center of the teardrop.
•Place the teardrop onto the wooden base.
•Insert a toothpick down into the bear, sticking up about ¼” to help hold the head in place.
•Cut off a small portion of your brown color you set aside and add some “igloo” to make a lighter brown shade for your bear details.
•Fully combine these two colors until there are no streaks remaining.

•Additional Body Parts
•For the head, take the circle that you rolled previously.
•Using your fingers, gently “pinch” a forehead area as shown.
•Take your arms & your legs and add them to your body.
•Use your fingertips to gently blend the seams.

•Facial Details
•To add your facial details, take your medium ball tool and gently press it into the area of the face you’d like your eyes to sit. This should be just below the forehead.
•Roll two small balls of igloo clay and place inside the indents of the eyes.
•Add dots of lagoon for iris’s and poppy seed for pupils.
•Roll two tiny snakes of clay and press them with your thumb and forefinger to flatten, this will be your eyelids.
•To add your facial details, take your medium ball tool and gently press it into the area of the face you’d like your eyes to sit. This should be just below the forehead.

•Roll each round into a ball.
•Take a tiny amount of the lighter ‘cowboy’ color and make smaller rounds.
•Press the larger round and smaller rounds together to form a rounded ear shape.
•Using your medium ball tool, secure the rounds onto the bear’s head.
•Use your small ball tool to open the mouth a little further.
•Add a tiny ball of ‘poppy seed’ for the nose.
•Using the ‘cowboy’ clay you set aside from the beginning, use your smallest oval cutter and cut two rounds for ears.
•Roll each round into a ball.
•Take a tiny amount of the lighter ‘cowboy’ color and make smaller rounds.
•Press the larger round and smaller rounds together to form a rounded ear shape.
•Using your medium ball tool, secure the rounds onto the bear’s head.
: Making the Honey & Honey Pot
•Take a hazelnut-sized ball of ‘poppy seed’ clay and roll it into a ball.
•Using the largest ball tool, gently form in into a “pot” with a large hole in the middle.
•Take about ¼ a block of ‘canary’ & add a pinch of ‘pumpkin.’Blend completely.This will give you a nice “honey” looking color.
•Roll a hazelnut sized ball of the new color and cut it in half.
•Place the half round (flat side up) down into the pot.
•Press with your fingers to secure it.
•Take a portion of the remaining clay and roll tiny little teardrops to form your “honey drips.” (Save a little for the hive later)
•Randomly place these drips along the sides of the pot to look like the pot has overflowed.
•Also add some drips off the bear. (Cute placement ideas include hand, ears, mouth, and foot.)

•Roll the remaining sheet into a very long tapered snake.
•Beginning at the back of the bookend, use the largest end and make a coil in a cone shape with your tapered snake.
•Roll a small portion of ‘poppy seed’ through your pasta machine on the 4th largest setting.
•Choose an oval cutter that is about half the size of your hive and cut the oval shape from your sheet of ‘poppy seed’ clay.
•Using your super slicer, cut off a portion of the bottom of the oval to make it have a flat base as a “door” for your hive.
•Take some of the remaining “honey color” and add some “drips” from your hive.
•Take the rest of your ‘canary’ and fully condition the remaining block.

•Using the 2nd & 4th largest oval cutters in your set, cut one of each size oval from your ‘poppy seed’ sheet.
•Roll the smaller oval into a ball.
•Roll the larger oval into a teardrop.
•Using the section of ‘canary’ you set aside earlier, roll it through the 3rd smallest setting of your pasta machine.
•Cut three strips from this sheet.
•Wrap each strip around the teardrop to make “stripes” on the bee’s body.
•Gently press the round ball on top of the teardrop near the roundest portion to make the head.
•Using ‘igloo,’ cut two small teardrops and place on the back of the bee for wings.
•Take the remaining ‘poppy seed’ clay and roll it out on the 2nd largest setting of your pasta machine.
•Using the 2nd & 4th largest oval cutters in your set, cut one of each size oval from your ‘poppy seed’ sheet.
•Roll the smaller oval into a ball.
•Roll the larger oval into a teardrop.
•Using the section of ‘canary’ you set aside earlier, roll it through the 3rd smallest setting of your pasta machine.
•Cut three strips from this sheet.
•Wrap each strip around the teardrop to make “stripes” on the bee’s body.
•Gently press the round ball on top of the teardrop near the roundest portion to make the head.
•Using ‘igloo,’ cut two small teardrops and place on the back of the bee for wings.
•Roll out some clay from your set in any vibrant color you choose for petals for flowers. (Shown is “So 80s”)
•Roll the clay on the 4th largest setting of your pasta machine.
•Using the smallest oval cutter, cut out several oval shapes for flower petals.
•Place the “petals” down on the background to create some flowers wherever you’d like.
•Press your needle tool into the pointy end of the teardrop and gently drag it back about halfway to make the “centers” of the petals.
•Add chalk powders or mica accents where you’d like.
•Bake covered in foil according to manufacturer’s instructions.
