Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and
water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6
mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For
best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Sheet 1/4 bar Igloo to a very thin sheet with the Acrylic Clay Roller or pasta machine on the third thickest setting.

Press the sheet to the texture side of the texture sheet with fingertips. Then roll into all the crevices with the Clay Roller.

Step 3

Use a Clay Blade to carefully remove the excess Igloo from the texture sheet, leaving Igloo in the crevices.

Step 4

Roll or sheet 1/4 bar Crème Brûlée through the pasta machine n the 2nd thickest setting or to just under 1/8” thickness. Press the Crème Brûlée over the texture sheet sandwiching the Igloo in the middle. Use fingertip pressure to make sure the clay sticks.

Step 5

Flip the texture sheet with the clay on it to a very sturdy work surface. The yellow background is my laminate countertop. This is showing the back of the texture sheet with the clay contacting the countertop.

Step 6

Burnish the clay firmly to the work surface with the Clay Roller so it does not move.

Step 7

Carefully peel the texture sheet away leaving the clay to stick to the work surface.

Step 8

Use the largest oval cutter to cut out the desired shape from the clay sheet.

Step 9

Remove the scrap and smooth the cut edges with fingertips.

Step 10

Use the Clay Blade to divide the shape into equal pieces.

Step 11

Use the Blunt Point Tool to poke holes in the center top of each shape.

Bake the clay pieces following the baking instructions for Soufflé™. Allow to cool before handling.

Step 12

Here is the layout for the earrings.

Step 13

Use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump rings connecting the clay to the ear wires.
