Your Work Space:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotec ted furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Roll the clay through your Pasta on the thickest setting or #1.
Cut a 3 inch circle using a cookie cutter
Press the stamp into the clay ensuring you press evenly. Poke a hole in the top of the ornament large enough for a piece of twine or string to fit.
Bake
After the ornament has cooled completely, fill in the leaf impression with the paint pen.
Paint on the initial you want.
Add twine or string for hanging.

Prepare Your Oven and Workspace for Your Clay Ornament

We suggest using a 1-ounce bar of Sculpey Soufflé™ Igloo and a Sculpey Tools™ Clay Conditioning Machine or pasta machine for the Sculpey Soufflé™ Initial Ornament.

Always make sure your work area is covered with disposable foil, a metal baking sheet, wax paper or the Sculpey Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat. This will protect any furniture or finished surfaces in your home, classroom or studio.

Condition clay by running it through the Sculpey Tools™ Clay Conditioning Machine. You can also unwrap and knead clay until smooth and soft by hand — make sure your hands are clean before and after working with clay! We recommend using baby wipes to clean your hands when working with multiple colors or before switching colors.

Begin by preheating your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. You can bake your clay initial ornament right on the Sculpey Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat, or another oven-proof surface such as aluminum foil.

When you're finished sculpting the ornament, bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes per 6 millimeters of thickness according to the directions on your package. For best baking results:

  • Do not exceed the recommended temperature or recommended baking time.
  • Do not use a microwave oven.
  • Use an oven thermometer to ensure correct temperature.
