Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and
water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions.

Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however
please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic
surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME

Step 2

Sheet Crème Brulé through the pasta machine to the fourth thickest setting or roll to 1/16” thick.

Cut out a large flower shape using a cookie cutter. Poke a hole in the top with the 2mm Ball Tool.

Bake the flower following the baking instructions for Soufflé™. Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 3

We will need embroidery floss, an embroidery needle, and scissors for the embroidery.

Step 4

We will be embroidering the design right through the baked clay. It will be important to use a thimble to protect your fingers so that you can use appropriate pressure to push the needle through the baked clay. Thread the needle with green embroidery floss. Start by making the green stems first.

Step 5

Sew a cluster of green stems that cross in the lower center.

Step 6

Tie off the floss in the back with square knots and cut the tails short.

Step 7

Next, sew tan stems as shown with little extra buds at the top.

Step 8

Add fuchsia and peach French knots at the tops of the stems.

Step 9

Add more French knots at lower points on the stems.

Step 10

Tie off with knots at the back and trim the tails.

Step 11

Roll out more of your clay color to about 1/8” thick or on the second thickest setting on the pasta machine.

Step 12

Squirt Translucent Liquid Sculpey® over the stitching on the back.

Step 13

Place the thinner flower shape over the Translucent Liquid Sculpey®. Gently pinch the two flowers together seating the embroidery knots between the layers and the TLS will hold the two sides together.

Bake again following the baking instructions for Sculpey Soufflé™. Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 14

Once the piece is cool, dip the 6 mm Ball Tool into red paint and dot paint around the edges of the flower.

Step 15

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 16

Add a raffia loop through the hole at the top for a hanger.

Add a little raffia bow to the stems and trim the tails.
