Project Instructions
GETTING STARTEDPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Using a ¼ package of Turnip, form a log about ¾” thick. Using the Clay Conditioning Machine on a #2 setting make a sheet of Poppy Seed around the Turnip log creating a bullseye cane. This cane will be used in several variations.
Cut 3 slices from the cane about ¼ thick. Pinch the Poppyseed edges of each slice to create wafer-like beads. Pierce through the center of each using the needle tool.
Step 4Reduce the cane from Step 2 to about ½” diameter by pinching and stretching the cane.
Roll a ball about 1” diameter with Sandcastle. Slice 9 thin pieces from the Turnip/Poppy Seed clay and apply them all around the ball. Pierce the bead using the needle tool.
Cut six ¼” thick beads from the cane. Add a tiny dot of Igloo on each side and pierce each using the needle tool.
Reduce the cane to about ¼” diameter and cut into three equal pieces. Arrange the three pieces together and roll into a new log cane.
Roll a ball of Igloo about 1” diameter. Cut 11 thin slices of the 3-lobe cane and apply them to the igloo ball. Roll the ball to smooth the slices into the surface and flatten the bead into a saucer shape. Pierce a hole in the bead using the needle tool.
Make two Poppyseed base beads that are ¼” diameter and one that is 7/16” diameter. Cut 11 thin slices of the 3-lobe cane and apply them to Poppyseed beads. Roll the balls to smooth the slices into the surface. Pierce a hole in the beads using the needle tool.
Make a ½” diameter Igloo bead. Add Sandcastle dots to the bead. Then add smaller Igloo dots to the center of the Sandcastle dots. Pierce using the needle tool.
Twist a snake of Igloo about ¼” thick with a Turnip snake about 1/8” thick. Roll them together to incorporate them. Wrap the snake around a long needle tool to form beads and cut into various lengths. You will need 3 total of these beads.
Roll a sheet of Poppy Seed about a #2 thickness and using the Super Slicer cut several strips about 1/16” thick.
Make two ¼” Poppyseed base beads and one 1 ¼” L Sandcastle log shape bead. Pierce them with the needle tool. Wrap the threads of clay around the base beads for a loose texture.
Make 7 balls of Sandcastle about ½” diameter. Flatten the balls and pinch the edges into slightly irregular wafers. Pierce the center of the wafer using the needle tool.
Bake all the beads according to the directions above.
With the round nose pliers, form a loop at one end of the bracelet memory wire. Thread the beads on the wire in a random pattern as desired. Finish with a second loop at the end of the bracelet wire.
