Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and
water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching
colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card
or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼"
(6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat
up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE
OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Condition Voltage Blue clay and roll it into a thick slab using the thickest setting on the clay conditioning machine.

Step 2

Step 3

Place your silk screen over the slab. Gently rub the screen with your finger to adhere it evenly to the clay surface. Squeeze a line of cream-colored acrylic paint across the top of the slab. Use a flat tool or scraper to drag the paint from top to bottom, creating a thin, even layer over the clay.

Step 3
Step 3

Step 4

Carefully lift the silk screen to check the design transfer. Repeat if necessary. Once satisfied, remove the screen and rinse it immediately with water.

Step 4

Step 5

Cut out two circles from the slab using the medium-sized circle template. Slice each circle in half, making sure to preserve the section of the design you want for the earrings.

Step 5
Step 5

Step 6

Roll a slab of ivory clay on the thickest setting. Using the fourth-largest circle template, cut out two smaller circles.

Step 6

Step 7

Cut a hole in the center of each small circle using the second-smallest circle template, to create a donut shape.

Step 7

Step 8

Cut two long, tapered shapes from a slab of ivory clay using the second-smallest size template. Smooth any rough edges.

Step 8

Step 9

Position the donut-shaped circles over the half circles, leaving half of the donut hanging off the edge. Use a needle tool to poke a small hole at the top center of each tapered shape.

Bake/cure according to the directions in Step 1 above. Allow to cool.

Step 9

Step 10

Use jewelry pliers to open a jump ring. Loop the tapered gemstone shape onto the main base of the earring and close securely. Repeat for the second earring.

Step 10

Step 11

Flip the earrings over and attach the posts with a small bead of instant glue. Let dry completely before wearing.
