Sculpey Premo™ Faux Gemstone Pendant

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and
water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching
colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card
or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼"
(6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat
up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE
OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Take 1/4 gray granite, 1/4 Silver, and 1/5 Gold, only cutting the gold clay in half. Condition each one and roll them into smooth balls.

Shape each ball into a long, thin slab into a rounded rectangular shape. Cut several imperfect pieces like the ones shown in the photo from the gray and silver slabs..

Take one piece of each color and loosely stack them on top of each other. Compress the stack gently, fold it over a few times, and keep conditioning until you get a marbled effect. Roll it into a ball.

Flatten the marble ball into a large, thin slab and cut it into three equal sections. Slice off a few irregular pieces from the Gold blab and randomly press them onto the three sections.

Cut each of the large sections in half and stack them on top of each other. Compress the stack again and twist slightly, then roll it into a smooth marble ball.

Shape the ball into a rectangular cube and mark it into three even sections.

Slice each section in half lengthwise, so you end up with six chunky pieces.

Use a clay blade to shape each piece into a gemstone. Slice and angle the sides until you’re happy with the overall shape.

Use the needle tool to poke a hole through the center of each piece, all the way through to make a bead.

Bake the clay according to the directions in Step 1 above.

Once the clay has cooled, insert a head pin through the smallest gemstone with the flat head at the bottom and the wire sticking out the top.

Trim the excess wire with cutters, leaving about ¼ inch to work with. Use pliers to bend the wire at a slight angle.

Curl the end of the wire into a loop with round-nosed pliers.

Cut off the flat end of the head pin for the remainder of the gemstones. Repeat Step 11A and 11B to make connecting ends/double-looped beads.

Slightly open one loop and connect the gemstones to form a chain. Twist or adjust the pieces so they lay flat and evenly.

Add a jump ring to the top loop of the last gemstone and attach your circle charm.

Trim the necklace chain to your desired length or 24 inches using wire cutters.

Add jump rings to each end of the chain. On one side, attach a lobster clasp to the jump ring.

Find the center of the necklace chain and add another jump ring. Loop your gemstone charm through the jump ring and close it securely with pliers.
