Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake/cure clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index
card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6
mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking/curing; however please note that the
baking/curing times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take
longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE
MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Roll out two small snakes in Neon Green and Honey Dew.

Twist together as shown.

Step 3

Fold the twist in half.

Step 4

Roll into a ball.

Step 5

Roll out into a snake again, now you have a fun marbled pattern for your frame!

Step 6

Use a 1.25 inch cutter as a guide and wrap the snake around the cutter, trim with a craft knife and join the edges gently with your fingers.

Step 7

Remove the clay gently from the cutter. Repeat steps if you want to create a few frames.

Step 8

OPTIONAL!

You can also use an extruder, make the snake the same way as above, load the snake into the extruder and chose a shape, I like the half circle shape.

Step 9

Wrap around a 1.25 inch cutter just like before.

Step 10

Remove the cutter. Bake both circles at 275°F and reference clay packaging for timing. I baked mine for 30 mins.

Step 11

Cut your photos down to size. I flipped my photos over and used the cutter as a guide and traced around it with a pencil.

Trace two circles on your matboard. A glue stick works best to stick the photos
to the matboard.

Step 12

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the matboard circles.

I left a little space from the edge for the super glue (or hot glue) but it’s ok if your photo goes to the edge.

Step 13

Glue the matboard and the clay together using super glue (or hot glue).

Step 14

Use super glue (or hot glue) to add a magnet to the back of the assembly.

Step 15

That’s it! The possibilities are endless, try different clay colors, add some painted accents or whatever you’d like.
