Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results,
use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Make small logs from each color except White. The logs should be about 1.25” long
and 3/16” thick.

Step 2

Step 3

Roll each log in a thin layer of composite gold leaf.

Step 3

Step 4

Roll out a thin sheet of White clay. Use a sharp blade to slice very thin slices from
the colored logs. Press the small disks of colors randomly onto the White sheet.

Step 4

Step 5

Use a Roller to roll the disks flat into the White background.

Step 5

Step 6

Add more disks as desired and roll again.

Step 6

Step 7

Cut out four 1” circles.

Step 7

Step 8

Poke a hole in the center of each disk.

Step 8

Step 9

Stretch the hole slightly in a disk and place it in the middle sized donut cabochon
shape with the colorful side down.

Step 9

Step 10

Back fill the donut with more White clay to make it filled to level.

Step 10

Step 11

Press another of the colorful disks to the back of the one in the mold. Make sure the
hole is clean and open.

Step 11

Step 12

Carefully release the clay donut from the mold by gently flexing the mold.

Repeat for a second clay donut. Smooth the edges with fingertips where the front meets the back.

Bake the clay donuts following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Allow to cool completely.

Step 12

Step 13

Here is the layout for the earrings. Use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump
rings connecting through the center of the donuts and the hole in the earring
back.
