Project Instructions
Your Workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Roll out a snake from Ballerina that is 1/4" thick and 9" long. Taper the end. Roll out four more Ballerina snake that are 1/4" thick and 4" long. Taper the ends. Roll out two more Ballerina snake that are 1/4" thick and 3" long.
Roll out a snake from Candy pink that is 1/8" thick and 9" long. Taper the end. Roll out four more Candy snake that are 1/8" thick and 4" long. Taper the ends. Roll out two more Candy snake that are 1/8" thick and 3" long.
Fold each of the short snakes in half and pinch the tapered ends together so that you have four large teardrop shapes and two smaller teardrop shapes.
Using the Ballerina, take two of the larger teardrops and bend the tips to the side. Position the two teardrops on both sides of the center on the long snake, securing the bent tips to the rope. Put the other larger teardrop on both sides of the middle teardrops. Add the two small teardrops on the outsides. Make sure all the teardrops are attached securely to the base snake.
Make a 1/2” teardrop shape in Ballerina and add it to the top of the center teardrop shapes. Press in a large rhinestone into the center. Make a ½” ball of Ballerina and add it to the base of the crown in the center. Press in a larger rhinestone into the center. Make six ¼” balls of Ballerina onto the crown design in the gaps. See the note below about adding rhinestones.

Note-If your rhinestones are glass or crystal, you will be able to bake them into place on the crown. Just press them into the clay and make sure the clay comes up around them just a little to hold them into place. If your rhinestones are plastic you will not be able to bake them. Push them into place where you want them to make a well for them. Then gently lift them back out. Glue them into place later after the crown has been baked. OR- you can simply glue them onto the surface of the clay after baking.
Take the Candy Pink teardrops you made in Step 4 and lay them on top of the Ballerina teardrops and base. Press them lightly to adhere to the Ballerina clay.
Stand the crown up on the base. Press it lightly against the mixing bowl and bend the crown around the bowl to shape it.
Using your fingertip or a paintbrush, add a light layer of pearl mica powder to the entire surface of the crown. Using the needle tool, poke a hole at the either end of the crown for attaching the cord.
Bake according to the directions above in Step 1. When cool, tie the elastic cord through the holes and size it to your princess' head. Trim the ends.
