Project Instructions
Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Paint the wooden frame with the Primary Blue acrylic paint and set aside to dry. You should only need one or two coats because most of it will be covered by the clay tiles. Make sure you paint the inside edges and outside edges because they will be visible.
Using a ½ block of each color, condition and then roll 5” sized snakes of each. Press these four snakes together and roll again. Twist the clay so colors start to swirl and then fold in half and then fold in half again.
Roll a long snake again approximately 8” long and twist the clay again. Fold in half and then fold in half again.
Repeat Step 4 again.
Roll the clay into a big ball. Colors should be nice and marbled looking. Flatten this a bit so that you can run it through the clay machine on the #1 (thickest) setting (or use an acrylic roller and roll the clay flat until it is approximately 1/8” thick).
Using the 1 ½” square cookie cutter, cut out 14 squares. You may have to roll the clay in a ball again and run through the machine one more time to be able to cut out 14.
Using ¼ of the brick of Blue clay, roll into a ball then flatten and run it through the clay machine on the #1 setting. Using the square cookie cutter again, cut out 3 blue squares. Cut each of these in half.Using your small capitol letter stamps, press the word DAD into one of your blue rectangles.
Arrange your squares and rectangles on the frame as follows: 3 marbled squares in each corner. One blue rectangle in the center of the top and bottom of the frame (vertical). Blue rectangles on left and right (one being the stamped DAD piece) sides of the frame leaving space for one more marble piece in the center of the left and right sides.(blue tiles will go horizontal here, 2 on each side). For this last piece you will have to trim your last two marbled squares to fit in this space. When you are happy with the arrangement, transfer the pieces to your baking surface in the same arrangement and bake according to the directions above in Step 1.
Once the tiles have cooled, arrange them on the frame again and then glue them into place allowing the glue to dry completely before adding a photo.
