Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not
working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured
clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces.
Be sure to
cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands
after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For
best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

For the chocolate dough, mix together 1/16 block White with 1/16 block Chocolate.

Step 3

This amount of clay will make three donuts. Use two of these for the earrings. Save the third piece to make another donut charm if you like.

Step 4

To make a pair of earrings, use two of these pieces of light brown clay. Follow these instructions for both pieces. Start by slightly flattening.

Step 5

Next, press a divot into the center with the Ball End Tool.
Press the divot into the back side as well.

Step 6

Use the Blunt Point Tool to poke the hole all the way through the divots. Smooth the center hole with the same tool.

Step 7

Carefully push a jump ring into the top of the donut shape.

Step 8

From a very small pinch of Ballerina make a flat disc. Poke a hole through the center. This will be the frosting for the donut.

Step 9

Stretch the hole large enough to go around the hole in the donut.

Step 12

Add sprinkles to the top of the frosting in the other colors.
Make sure the little sprinkles stick to the frosting by applying gentle
pressure with your fingertips.

Bake the donuts following the baking instructions for Sculpey
III®.

Allow to cool completely.

Step 10

Be sure to make two of everything!

Press the frosting to the top of the donut. You can make whatever style frosting you like. In this tutorial the frosting is left off of the top just for a quirky donut style.

Step 11

Add sprinkles to the top of the frosting in the other colors.
Make sure the little sprinkles stick to the frosting by applying gentle pressure with your fingertips.

Bake the donuts following the baking instructions for Sculpey III®.

Allow to cool completely.

Step 12

Here is the layout for the earring assembly.

Step 13

Use flat nose pliers to open and close the eyes on the ear wires to attach them to the jump rings in the top of the donuts.

Step 14

Here are some more color inspirations for donut charms.

Step 15

Here’s an idea for a donut charm attached to a key ring.
