Project Instructions
Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Paint Birdhouse in Cocoa. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour.
Make 10 or so flowers of each shape by running the different color clays through the clay machine on the #2 setting and using your assortment of little flower and leaf cutters. We used the following colors and shapes:
Fuchsia Pearl (8) largest flowers. Use 5 in 1 tool to make indents for each petal. Press Swarovski crystal in center.
Teal Pearl (8) round flowers. Using the Sculpey 5-in-1Tools, make indents on each petal. Press a Swarovski Crystal in each center.
Acid Yellow (12) small flowers. Press little Black bead in centers.
Purple (6) round flowers. Use the end of the paintbrush and make little round indents in each petal. Roll small balls of White and press into each center.
Candy Pink (7) smaller flower cutters. Using the ball end tool in the 5-in-1 Tool Set, make indents to show each petal. Roll little balls of White and press into centers.
Just Orange roll (6) small balls (1/8”). Press the end of the paintbrush into each little ball to create a cupped flower shape. Press one small ball of White and press into each center of the Just Orange cupped flower.

Use the Leaf Green to make 25 leaves using the mini cutters. Using a craft knife, give each leaf veins and curl the tips.Roll thin snakes of Leaf Green, cut into 2” and 1” pieces. Curl ends – make 8 or so.
Make two birds. Roll 2 balls of White clay about the size of a quarter. Shape these into bird shapes by pointing one end for the tail and rounding one end for the head. Use the ball end tool in the 5-in-1 tool set to make indentations for wings. Press one bird against the roof. Press the other inside the little hole. This will help when it is time to glue them on later if they are already indented to fit in their places.
Make flower clusters with your flowers and leaves. Use the Bake n'Bond on the edges of leaves and press a cluster of 3 leaves together to glue. Press assorted flowers on top of leaves. Make some smaller clusters with just one or two leaves.Bake the birds and flower leaf clusters according to the directions above in Step 1. Allow to cool completely.
Using Wet/Dry sand paper, sand your birds until smooth. Paint the bodies of your birds with Buttermilk paint. Paint the bellies of your birds with the Burnt Orange paint. Paint two small eyes on each with Black paint. Mix some Buttermilk with Black to make Grey and paint little Grey beaks on each bird. When paint is dry, coat each bird with the Satin Glaze. Attach a ribbon to the center of the house to hang. Glue birds and flower clusters onto your birdhouse. Glue curly stems and extra leaves onto the sides of the birdhouse. Allow glue to dry.You can now enjoy your birdhouse!
