Project Instructions
Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Roll a ball of Navy Blue approximately 5/8". Make sure this ball fits nicely into the large cabochon teardrop shape without any extra.
Break off random pieces of Gold leaf and apply them to the sides of the ball. Roll the ball in your hands until the gold leaf starts to break up a bit.
Mold the ball in the large cabochon teardrop shape. Trim off any excess clay using the super slicer. Remove from the mold.
Push the eye pin into the fat end of the teardrop until the base of the eye is in the clay. Bake according to the directions above.
Beading :
•Insert a jump ring into the eye pin and attach the jump ring to the bail.
•Cut off the amount of monofilament you would like to use for your necklace and add an additional 6". If you want a 16" choker, then cut off 22".
•Attach one end of the monofilament to eye of the necklace clasp using a crimping bead and pliers. Alternately string a seed bead and a bugle bead onto the monofilament for 16" or your desired length. String the clay teardrop and the fancy bail onto the beaded cord.
•Secure the loose end of the bead string to the hook end of the necklace clasp with a crimping bead and pliers.
•Repeat with another strand of monofilament of equal length. Secure it to the eye clasp with a crimping bead and pliers. String it with the seed beads and bugle beads. Make sure this strand also goes through the bail for the clay piece. And then finish by securing to the hook clasp with a crimp bead and pliers. Trim off the excess monofilament.
