Project Instructions
Getting Started Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Condition a small amount each of the White and Black clay and roll into sheets on a # 2 setting on the clay conditioning machine.
Use the Petals pattern silk screen on the black clay with the Blue and Pink paint. Place the silkscreen shiny side down onto the piece of Black clay and smooth down with your fingers. Then place a line of Blue paint above the Petals screen design. Using the squeegee pull the paint down to cover the design. Lift the screen up and place immediately into warm water to clean the screen. After drying the screen with a towel repeat with Pink paint for the other bobby pin.
Use the Swirls pattern silk screen with the Green and Purple paint on the white clay
Once the paint is dry, cut a ¾” circle out of each screened piece of clay. Bake the cut circles for 15 minutes and let cool completely.
Run 1 sheet each of Black and White clay through the Clay Conditioning Machine on a #4 setting. Cut two ½” circles out of the White clay and two out of the Black clay. Cut each circle in half. Pick up a bobby pin and turn it over so you are looking at the underside of the disc. Position a half circle on each side of the pin part so it hangs over the edge of the disc part of the bobby pin. Spread a thin layer of Bake N’ Bond onto the back of the screened disc and position the bobby pin in the center. Smooth the edges of the half circles onto the back of the screened disc so that the bobby pin is sandwiched between the back of the screened disc and the half circles of clay. Repeat this process on the remaining bobby pins. Bake for 15 minutes and cool completely.
To help protect the paint brush a thin layer of the Sculpey Satin or Glossy Glaze over the painted side. Let the glaze dry completely.
