Project Instructions
Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Mix a ¼ of the clay bar of Pearl clay with a 1/16 of the clay bar of Purple, to create Purple Pearl.
Mix a ¼ of the clay bar of Magenta Pearl with 1/8of the bar of Pearl clay, to create a lighter Pearl Magenta.
Make sheets of these new colors by rolling them through the clay conditioning machine on the #1 setting.
Take your 1/2" cutter & cut 5 circles of each color.
Place a piece of wax paper on your work surface & pour a small amount of Micro glitter.Dip each circle into the glitter, both front & back sides.
Stack the glittered circles starting with the purple pearl, alternating the colors as you go. Place the stack into the extruder, use the round circle disc.
Cut the extruded snake in half. Then into 4 equal pieces.
Start at one end of the cut piece & roll it into a ball shape. Then roll it with your hand to round it out. Pierce each bead through the center, and bake as directed above.
Wet sand each bead until smooth. At this point you may choose to polish the beads using an electric buffer (as I did), or coat them with Sculpey Gloss. Assemble the earrings using the beads & supplies listed above.
