Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

Create the dark navy blue color by mixing a bit (about 1/8 oz.) of red glitter clay with the blue. If it’s not dark enough add additional red clay a little at a time blending the colors in the machine.

When using the extruder, roll each color into three logs using your hands. Feed each color into the machine to create the strips. Be sure to clean the tool between colors to avoid transferring one color to the next.

Place one white strip on top of another white strip. Do the same with the red and blue. You should have a total of three doubled strips (one red, one white and one blue) and three single strips (one red, one white and one blue).

Wrap as many strips as you can fit around a metal bracelet form. Tug slightly as you wrap. This will cause the clay to stick to the form. Bake the strips at 275 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow them to cool then slip them off the form. The strips will have a natural curve to them (B). Bake the remaining strips.

Because the opening in the clasp is only large enough to accommodate four thicknesses of clay, one of the double strips has to be trimmed. Use a craft knife to separate the two layers of one doubled strip. Separate only 1/2” from the end and cut it off.

Create two stacks with the strips in this order:Stack 1 - the trimmed double white strip, the double blue strip and the single red strip. Hold the stack together with painters tape placed away from the ends.Stack 2 - the single blue strip, the double red strip and the single white strip. Tape them together.

Apply glue to the last half inch of the strips between all layers. Place the two stacks side by side and tape them together. Apply glue to the inside of the clasp with a piece of craft stick.

Insert the two stacks side by side into the opening in the clasp. Allow the glue to set overnight.

Slide two stars each on the three doubled strips. Use a craft knife if necessary to shave a little thickness off the end of each strip to fit into the star bead opening then pull the star across the strip. Don’t worry about placement of the stars on the strips just yet.

Clip together the strips of the left and right stacks. Loosely braid each stack. Tape or clip them to prevent unraveling.

Try on the bracelet and mark where to trim the strips to fit your wrist. Allow for the clasp in your measurements. After trimming the strips complete this side of the bracelet the same way you did the other. The placement of the colors in each stack need not be the same as before. Allow the glue to set overnight.

Slide the stars across the strips into the desired position. If the stars slide out of place, use a toothpick to stuff glue inside the star to keep it from moving.
