Project Instructions
Getting Started:Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 °F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay conditioning machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Take 1 oz each of Magenta Pearl and Peacock Pearl and run each color through the clay conditioning machine on setting #3. Shape into the rectangle
Press the copper leaf onto the Peacock Pearl rectangle and then press the magenta Pearl rectangle on top of it, to create a sandwich. Run the stack of clay through the thickest setting on the clay conditioning machine and then on the medium setting of the clay conditioning machine. Cut in half, stack and repeat this step one more time.
Spray the technique design block- Bristol block with water and press into the stack of clay. With the tissue blade slice off the raised top of the stacked clay, down to and even thin sheet.
Run a small amount of Peacock Pearl on the medium setting of the clay conditioning machine and press to the bottom side of the textured sheet. Cut out two rectangles and press a hole through the bottom and top with the needle tool.
Bake according to the instructions above and allow to completely cool. Assemble the earrings with your jewelry findings.
