premo! Accents Cabochon and Leather Bracelet

Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

This version of the color features 4 parts of Premo! Accents Bronze and 1 part of Premo! Alizarin Crimson. The easiest way to mix the colors is roll the conditioned clays through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning machine on the #1 (widest) setting. Use the largest of the Sculpey round cutters to cut out 4 circles of Bronze and 1 circle of Alizarin Crimson. Firmly press the circles together and roll through the Sculpey Conditioning Machine again several times to smoothly blend the colors (or if you get a nice marbleized effect STOP! And use that for your design!) NOTE: You can also skip all this color mixing instruction and just use the Bronze right out of the package too! It’s so close to the actual color..

Once you have the color mixed to your satisfaction, pinch off a piece and roll a small ball about ¾ of an inch in diameter. Lightly spray the large round cabochon mold with water (wipe water off the top surfaces of the mold so that the water is only in the mold). Press the ball of clay firmly into the mold.

Use the Super Slicer blade to slice off the excess clay from the middle of the mold to one edge and repeat on the other edge.

Pop out the clay and admire your perfect cabochon! See how the mica flakes swirl and cause differences in color? I like that. Set aside for now. NOTE: You can also bake the clay right in the silicone mold!

Repeat these two steps, using the smallest of the round molds. Set aside for now.

Roll the conditioned Premo! Accents Gold clay out on the widest setting of the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine. Select the third largest Sculpey circle cutter, that best fits the largest bezel mold. and cut out a circle of the Gold clay. The clay should almost fit right into the bezel. Spray the mold with a light mist of water (wipe the water from the top of the mold). Now all you have to do is firmly push the clay into the mold, no trimming necessary! Flex the mold to remove the clay, turning the mold and flexing to remove it from all four sides.

Put a little Sculpey Bake n’ Bond into the bezel and position the cabochon. Use your fingers to press gently on either side as you turn the bezel to help fit the bezel perfectly to the cabochon. Set aside.

Place a small piece of the leftover #1 layer of Gold clay onto a small smooth ceramic tile. Use the largest Etch n’ Pearl tool to punch out at least 2 “pearls”. Use the medium ball too from the Sculpey Ball and Stylus set to press a dent into the center of each of the pearls. NOTE: I have a bottle cap of water so that I can dip the Etch n’ Pearl tool into the water so that the clay doesn’t stick in it!

Roll out a small piece of Premo! Accents Peacock clay and use the smallest Etch n’ Pearl to punch out at least two small pearls. Position these in the center of the modified Gold pearl as shown.

Punch out 4 medium pearls from the remaining Gold sheet and position all the pearls as shown on the bezel of the large cabochon, adding a tiny drop of Bake n’ Bond to each pearl before finally pressing gently into place. Set aside.

Use the smallest ball stylus to add some more texture to the bezel if you wish!

Roll the remaining Gold clay out in a thin sheet (#4 on my machine) and place this sheet on a sheet of paper. Use the large Etch n’ Pearl tool to punch out the clay. The clay should stick inside the tool this time. Transfer the clay to the center of the cabochon by gently pressing the tool into the clay. Repeat to add 6 more dots around the center.

Roll a small piece of the Peacock clay out on the same thickness as the Gold and use the small Etch n’ Pearl tool to punch out and transfer to the center of each gold dot. Finally use the small Ball Stylus to press a small detail hole in the center of each of these peacock circles. Repeat for the other cabochon.

Bake the clay as directed above. Once the clay is baked and completely cooled, use the gel glue to glue the largest cabochon into the center of the bracelet. Glue the two smaller cabs into place right next to the center. NOTE: I found that I needed to gently curve the leather before I glued these into place so that there was no gap between the cabs when the bracelet was curved around a wrist.Allow the glue to dry thoroughly and enjoy!
