Liquid Sculpey® Bows and Beads Earrings

Getting Started with Liquid Bakeable Medium:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Bakable Medium may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

- Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best).

 Baking (also called Curing):

 -It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.

-Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.

-If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by using aluminum foil over your project.

Here’s a tip for baking perfectly in silicone molds. Dampen a dish towel with water and wring out as much of the water as you can. Fold the damp towel so that the molds can sit level on top of it. The damp towel will slow down the curing process so that the LS will cure evenly throughout and avoid warping.

Mix equal amounts of Purple Liquid Sculpey® and Pearl Liquid Sculpey® (LS) in the Silicone Mixing Cup to make Purple Pearl. You will need at least 10 ml total or 5 ml of each color depending on the size of your mold.

Mix completely to achieve the new color.

Fill the mold halfway with the Purple Pearl.

Use the tip of the Knife Tool to help the liquid settle into all the details of the mold.

Burp the mold by flexing it in your hand to help release air bubbles.

Fill the mold to level with more LS.

Tap the mold on the work surface to release air bubbles.

Bake following the baking directions for Liquid Sculpey®.

Allow the mold to cool completely before flexing to release the bow shape.

Repeat Steps 2-7 to create a second bow shape.

Use the Knife Blade in the 5-in-1 Tool to remove the bottom bow ties.

Carefully use the Needle Tool in the 5-in-1 Tool to poke a hole sideways through the knot of the bow. This is where the wire will be inserted to create the beaded ties.

For each bow you will need three 4” wires.

Thread one wire through the hole to the halfway point.

Bend the wire in half tightly at the knot.

Thread 9-12 seed beads onto the wire depending on how big your seed beads are and how long you want the tails to be. Thread a crimp bead on last.

Smash the crimp bead with flat nose pliers.

Thread seed beads onto the other side of the wire to match. Finish with a crimp bead and smash it with flat nose pliers to fasten.

Add two more wires through the same hole and repeat the beading steps to finish.

Repeat all wire and beading steps on the second bow for a pair.

Glue posts to the back of the bows with silicone or instant drying glue. Allow glue to dry completely before handling.
