Liquid Sculpey® Faux Enamel Earrings

Liquid Bakeable Medium:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Bakable Medium may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Getting Started:

-Gently stir the bottle of liquid bakeable medium. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed.

- Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best).

 Baking:

-It is important to use oven
thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at
the correct temperature.

-Do not microwave the liquids. They
must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300
ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-If your piece is less than 1/4” bake
for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.

-If your liquid project has become
yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing
either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by
using aluminum foil over your project.

Roll 1/4 bar Terra Cotta Premo™ to a sheet 1/8” thick.

Use the Jewelry Design Template to cut out shapes.

Cut two trapezoid shapes using the templates.

Use the tip of the Medium Etch ‘n’ Pearl to poke holes in the tops.

Use the side of the Medium Etch ‘n’ Pearl to impress score lines vertically through the center of the shapes.

Use the same tool to impress small angled hash marks from the center lines down.

Place a very shallow puddle of Blue Gray Metallic Liquid Sculpey (LS) on a paper or plastic plate.

Dab the tip of your finger in the LS.

Tap the LS onto just the raised surfaces of the design.

Bake the pieces following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Allow to cool completely.

The thin layer of LS is not as deep as I want it to be so I will repeat Steps 7 and 8 adding another layer of the LS to the design.

Bake again following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Allow to cool completely.

I want the finish to shine like enamel, so I’m adding a very thin layer of Clear LS all over the top including the lines. You can apply the Clear LS with fingertips or a disposable paintbrush.

Bake once more following the baking instructions above.

Here’s the layout for the earrings.

Assemble the earrings with jump rings and ear posts using flat nose pliers.
