Your workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.
Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.
Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Basics for every project:
• For each & every bookmark you must be sure to sandwich the ribbon between two pieces of clay.
• Each ribbon must have a bit of Translucent Liquid Sculpey (TLS) to help hold it in place.
• Both grosgrain & satin ribbon are safe to put in a low temperature oven.

Make a Bee:
• First condition your Yellow section of Bakeshop clay from your sampler pack.
• Roll the clay out on the 3rd largest setting on your Pasta Machine.
• Use the 3rd smallest cutter in the oval cutter set and cut 2 oval shapes.
• First condition your Yellow section of Bakeshop clay from your sampler pack.
• Roll the clay out on the 3rd largest setting on your Pasta Machine.
• Use the 3rd smallest cutter in the oval cutter set and cut 2 oval shapes.
Place one oval on your work surface. Add the end of the ribbon to the middle of the oval using a little dab of Translucent Liquid Sculpey (TLS) on the top of the ribbon. Place the second oval directly on top of the first and use your fingers to blend the seams.
Use the 2nd smallest oval cutter and cut another oval from the Yellow clay. Position this for the head of the bee.
Condition a small portion of the Black color clay from the sampler pack and roll the clay out on the 3rd largest setting on your Pasta Machine. Cut 2-3 stripes from the sheet to make the stripes of the bee. Lay the stripes onto the bee and cut them to fit. Add a tiny ball of Red clay for the nose.
Condition the White section of clay from the sampler pack and roll the clay out on the 3rd largest setting on your Pasta Machine. Cut two of the smallest ovals from the White clay and place them overlapping to make "wings" for your bee.
Cut 2 ovals using the second smallest cutter from the Black clay rolled out on the 3rd largest setting of the Pasta Machine. Place them on top of each other. Use the largest cutter to cut a small section to make a "cap", using the cutter to add a curved end to one side. Add a small Black "cap" and a little eye using White and Black clays. Make a mouth using the needle and ball tool. Bake as directed from Step 1.
To Make a Cow:
• Condition a section of White by rolling it out using the 3rd largest setting on the Pasta Machine.
• Cut two circles from the 3rd largest round cutter from the conditioned White clay.
• Use the smallest oval and cut 2 small ovals from the White sheet
• Condition a small section of the Pink and Beige clays.
• Roll each through the 3rd largest setting on your Pasta Machine.
• Cut 1 oval using the smallest oval cutter from the Pink sheet.
• Cut 1 oval using the 2nd largest oval cutter from the Beige sheet.
• Roll 2 small Black balls to use as eyes.
• Condition a section of White by rolling it out using the 3rd largest setting on the Pasta Machine.

• Roll 2 small Black balls to use as eyes.
Apply shapes as follows:
• Place the one White circles on your work surface.
• Add your ribbon with a dab of TLS.
• Press the 2nd White circle on top of the first, smoothing the seams with your fingers.
• Place the Beige oval right in the middle of the bottom of the White circle.
• Cut the small Pink oval in half. Cut off 1/4 of the bottom portions of the White ovals. Take one of the Pink halves and layer it on top of one of the White oval pieces, lining up the bottom. Shape the bottom of the piece so it is curved. Do the same to the other Pink and White oval pieces. Add the two pieces where cow "ears" would be, shaping with your fingers.
• Add two tiny Black dots of clay for eyes.
• Smoosh Black clay for cow "spots" onto the White clay.
• Using the needle and ball tools add nose holes and a mouth.
• Bake as directed in Step 1.

Make a Snake:
• Take the Orange section of clay and roll out a tapered log, bend it into a pleasing snake shape.
• Roll out and shape a small teardrop of clay.
• Turn the snake on its back and add the ribbon with a drop of TLS.
• Smooth the teardrop on the top of the ribbon, fully covering the ends and blending into the snake shape.
• Turn the snake over and decorate as you please. In this example, a small Red "tongue" and Blue "spots" were added.
