Sculpey Soufflé™ Faux Enamel Earring

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven
Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured
clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to
cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands
after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat
up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE
OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Start by deforming the circle findings into an oval shape.
Place the round circle wire over a rounded object like a thick paintbrush
handle and pull gently to change the shape. The one on the left is the original
circle shape and the one on the right has been changed to an oval.

Roll clay to 1/16” thick and cut out two 1-3/4” circles. Lay the ear wires on top of the clay so that the hook and loop are just barely sticking out above the clay edge. We are going to sandwich the wires between layers of clay so don’t cover up the connection elements.

Cut out two more 1-3/4” circles and place them on top of the wires. Again, make sure the connector parts are not stuck in the clay.

Use the 1-1/4” circle cutter to remove the top portion of the circle to make the crescent shape.

Here’s a look at both earrings in the crescent shape.

Use heavy hand pressure to impress each clay piece with the texture. Smooth the edges with fingertips after texture is applied.

Dab your fingertip flatly in a little puddle of White Liquid Sculpey® (LS). Tap the White LS all over the raised surface of the texture.

Use a tiny applicator/swab to remove excess LS from areas as desired.

Add pearls of Light Pink Premo™ with the Small Etch ‘n’ Pearl tool.

Bake following the baking instructions for Soufflé™. Allow to cool completely before handling.

Use flat nose pliers to adjust the angle of the connecting points as needed.
