Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.  

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Roll White clay to a sheet about 1/8” thick. Make sure the sheet is large enough to
accommodate two of the 1.5” square cutter shapes.

Step 3

Use scissors to cut a section of the Transfer Sheet out the same size as the clay
sheet.

Step 4

Burnish the transfer sheet face down on top of the clay.

Use fingertips to help the transfer sheet stick to the clay. Then use a Roller to
really burnish it down.

Step 5

Dampen a sponge in water and really saturate the back of the transfer paper. The design should be visible through the paper. Blot the back of the transfer paper with
the sponge. When the paper backing starts to slide on the clay it can be
removed.

Step 6

Carefully peel the transfer paper backing off of the clay.

Step 7

Once the clay is completely dry, cut out two of the 1.5” square shapes using the cutter.

Step 8

Sheet Soufflé™ Cabernet to a 1/8” thick sheet with the Roller. Cut out two 3/4”
squares for top buttons.

Step 9

Position the clay parts and the jump rings for the layout.

Step 10

Poke holes in the clay parts so that you can later connect them using jump rings.

Bake the clay parts following the baking instructions for Sculpey Soufflé™. Allow to
cool completely before handling.

Step 11

Paint a thin layer of Glossy Glaze on the surface of the Bold Blooms design. Allow to
dry completely.

Step 12

Use flat nose pliers to connect parts opening and closing the jump rings to assemble.

Step 13

Glue ear posts to the backs of the top buttons. Allow glue to dry completely.
