Project Instructions
Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 285°F (140°C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 285°F (140°C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.
Here’s a look at all the parts needed to make the Bendy Cat. Now, lets see how to make each part.
photo shows all the pieces that will be described to assemble
The clay is divided into five sticks. For the cat’s body use two sticks of Orange. Shape the clay into a big kidney bean shape.

Flatten some White and smash it to the bottom of the body.

Smear the edges of the White so it blends along the sides into the Orange.

For the legs and tail, divide one stick of Orange into four equal pieces. Shape each back leg out of one fourth - these should look like commas. Shape the tail from one fourth making a squiggle with a point on one end. Divide the remaining one fourth into two equal pieces. Use each piece to make a front leg- little clubs with tapers.

Add a White bit to the end of each leg and the fat end of the tail.

Add Yellow stripes to the tail. Bend the tail how you would like it to appear. Place the tail now in the pre-heated oven and bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey Bake Shop® Bendy Clay. We need to bake the tail ahead of time so it will stand up straight when it is placed on the body later.

Press the front legs onto the body as shown.

Support the body with something small like a small circle cutter (shown) or possibly a thimble or a rolled up piece of aluminum foil.

Add thin Yellow stripes to the cat’s body.

Press the back legs onto the side of the body and add Yellow stripes. Make sure the back legs are in a position that the feet touch the ground. Also make sure that after baking, the object that is helping the cat pose can be easily removed from the body and from between the legs.

From one stick of Orange, make a big fat thick triangle shape. This will be the head.

Push the head onto the front of the body and let it rest on the front legs. Use your fingertips to push in eye sockets and to pinch the nose out at the same time.
photo shows as described
Add little triangles for the ears. Push the knife tool into the ears to create little ear canals and to help the ears attach to the head.

Add two White balls for the muzzle and a Pink nose.

Add Green eyes with Black pupils.
Make details on the face with the knife tool. Use a toothpick to prick whisker marks.

Finally add more stripes to the face. If you want, you can blend the legs into the body with your fingertips. Add little toe marks on the feet with the knife tool.

Place the cat on the baking tray. Poke the already baked tail into the rump of the cat. Use an object to prop up the tail. I’m using my baking thermometer but you could probably use a drinking glass or a coffee mug with straight sides.

Bake following the baking instructions for Sculpey Bake Shop® Bendy Clay. Allow to cool completely before handling.

Carefully pop the object out from underneath the cat’s belly.
