Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and
water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching
colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card
or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼"
(6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking
times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Create a rectangular shape with scrap clay, measuring 2 inches x 1.5 inches x .75 inches.

Step 3

Place the candlestick in the middle of the rectangle and gently press down.

Step 4

Use Exacto knife to cut a hole in the clay for the candle. Place candle in again to ensure it is a slightly loose fit and is deep enough.

Bake/cure according to directions in Step 1 above..

Step 5

Mix equal parts Cadmium Yellow and Magenta for the persimmon color.

Step 6

Roll mixed persimmon color on setting 2 on pasta machine. Drape over the base clay.

Step 7

Use the Exacto knife to cut out the clay where the hole is.

Step 8

Gently press the persimmon clay over the top and sides of the clay base and cut excess clay.

Step 9

Use some of the remaining persimmon clay to cover the bottom of the candle holder.

Step 10

Cut a strip of persimmon clay to fit the sides of the hole.

Step 11

Cut a circle wide enough to fit in the bottom of the hole and gently blend seams with your fingers. Set aside.

Step 12

Mix 1 part Premo Pearl to 2 parts Souffle Magenta.

Step 13

Roll mixed color on setting 5 on pasta machine. Cut out (25) circles with the larger circle cutter.

Step 16

Place Premo Pearl circles in the middle of the mixed Magenta dots.

Step 17

Take remaining persimmon clay and cut or roll (2) 2 inch by ½ inch strip. Fold and twist one end to recreate a candy wrapper twist.

Step 18

Use texture tools like the ball tool and knife edge to blend the wrapper twist to the block. Repeat with other side.

Step 19

Roll persimmon mixed color on setting 5 (thin) on pasta machine. Cut out (10) circles with the larger circle cutter. Roll Premo Pearl on setting 5 (thin) on pasta machine. Cut out (10) circles with the smaller circle cutter.

Step 20

Add mixed Magenta circles on wrapper twists, then place Premo Pearl circles in the middle of the mixed Magenta circles.

Step 21

Bake/cure according to Step 1. Here is a look at the completed project!
