Sculpey Soufflé™ and Liquid Sculpey® Ocean Ornament

Getting Started with Liquid Sculpey®:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. - Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

Baking:

 -It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.

-Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.

-If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by using aluminum foil over your project.

Here’s a tip for baking perfectly in silicone molds. Dampen a dish towel with water and wring out as much of the water as you can. Fold the damp towel so that the molds can sit level on top of it. The damp towel will slow down the curing process so that the LS will cure evenly throughout and avoid warping.

From 1/4 bar Latte, form a thick log.

From just a bit of Cowboy form a very thin rope.

Roll the Cowboy rope even thinner and divide it into four pieces.

Lay the Cowboy ropes on the Latte log. Press them to the sides of the Latte log so they stick in place.

Roll and twist the log to make a striped rope.

Fold the rope in half and then in half again.

Roll and twist the rope again.

Fold the rope in half and then in half again.

Roll and twist the folded rope but this time keep the rope short and thick like a log.

Flatten the log to about 1/8” thick with the Clay Roller to make a sheet.

Lay the sheet across the bottom half of the silicone mold and use hand pressure to mark the clay sheet with the edge of the mold.

Remove the sheet to reveal the impression in the sheet.

Cut the shape following the curved line with the Blade Tool from the 5-in-1.

Press the striped sheet into the bottom of the silicone mold shape.

Also cut the top of the striped sheet with the Blade Tool to make it more organic like a beach scene.

Squirt a bead of White Liquid Sculpey (LS) along the top of the striped sheet.

Now we will make the ocean wave. In the bottom of a small silicone cupcake liner, make layered stripes of White LS and Peacock LS.

Keep layering the colors alternating them on top of each other.

Layer again so that you have four alternating layers of the liquids.

Pinch the silicone liner parallel to the stripes forming a little spout.

Hover the pinched cup over the mold. Drip and pour the layers of White and Peacock Pearl into the area just above the White wave of LS. Allow the White/Peacock Pearl to fall randomly making a wave.

In another silicone cupcake liner or in the bottom of the Silicone Mixing Cup, fill the bottom with Clear LS. Then add 1 drop of Blue Tint and mix completely.

Pour the tinted Clear blue LS into the area of the mold above the wave. Make sure it surrounds the post in the mold.

Bake the mold following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey®.

After the first baking, leave the piece in the mold and allow it to cool completely. Then while it’s still in the mold, put a thin layer of Clear LS all over the piece.

Bake again following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey®.

Allow to cool completely before flexing the mold to release the piece.

If the ornament has a rough edge on it from the Clear LS, you can easily trim it away with small sharp scissors.

Here’s a look at the finished ornament. The top part that was tinted is really pretty and clear.

Add a coordinating ribbon and trim the ends.
