Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F
(130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an
oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey®
Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according
to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable
for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the
glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results,
use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE
TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

For the
Divide 1/4 bar of Premo™ Teal into a 1/2 piece and two 1/4 pieces for the kettle and the two cups. In the following Steps, I commonly refer to 1/4 bar of Premo™ as a
“stick”.

Step 3

We will make the cups first. Roll each of the 1/4 stick pieces into a ball. Slice off
about 1/3 of the ball as shown with a Clay Blade.

Step 4

Lay the 2/3 half of the ball flat on the work surface and press the 12mm Ball Tool
deeply into it.

Step 5

This will create a flat side for the bottom of the cup and the well in the top of
the cup. Keep the clay on the 12mm Ball Tool but gently lay it aside for now
while we make the handle.

Step 6

The 1/3 piece that was sliced off in Step 3 will be used for the handle. Pinch it
between your thumb and forefinger to help the straight side that was sliced to
start closing up.

Step 7

Gently pinch until the sides of the cut edges touch each other.

Step 8

The shape will be a large sort of flat off-center ellipse.

Step 9

Use the large Etch ‘n Pearl to push a circle very close to the pinched edge.

Step 10

Flip the clay over and push again in the exact same position as you did from the other side. It’s okay if the thin edge breaks.

Step 11

Remove the little cut out piece.

Step 12

Use a Clay Blade to remove the little scraps so that you have a half rounded teacup
handle.

Step 13

Re-shape the center hole as needed with the 6 mm Ball Tool.

Step 14

With the cup still on the 12 mm Ball Tool press the handle to the side.

Repeat all steps to make a second cup. Set the cups aside for baking

Step 15

Next, let's start working on the tea kettle. Form the 1/2 stick that we divided in
Step 2 into a long teardrop.

Step 16

Push the fat end of the teardrop to the work surface to flatten it for the bottom of the
kettle.

Step 17

Push down from the top with the 6mm Ball Tool to make a divot in the top.

Step 18

For the spout, use some clay from the remainder of the Teal Premo™ bar to make a wedge shape that is proportional to your kettle. Flatten one side of the wedge to the
work surface.

Step 19

Push the flat side of the wedge to the side of the kettle.

Step 20

Form a tiny handle from some clay from the remainder of the Teal Premo™ bar. Shape it into a question mark shape.

Step 21

Press it to the side of the kettle opposite the spout.

Step 22

Use bits of clay from the remainder of the bar for the lid. You will need a ball the
same diameter as the kettle top, and smaller ball, and still a smaller ball.

Step 23

Push the largest ball to the top of the kettle with the 12 mm Ball Tool.

Step 24

Next, add the medium ball and seat it into place with the 6 mm Ball Tool.

Step 25

Add the smallest ball to the divot made in Step 24.

Set the kettle aside for baking.

Step 26

From another 1/4 stick of Teal Premo™ we will make both saucers.

Divide the 1/4 stick piece into two. Roll each into a ball. To start the saucer shape,
use the 12 mm Ball Tool to press a divot into the center.

Step 27

On the left is a ball with the divot. On the right, keep flattening the divot working
outward with the 12 mm Ball Tool until a saucer shape is formed.

Repeat for the second saucer.

Step 28

Check the size and shape of the saucers with the cups.

Step 29

Bake all the parts following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™. If you want the cups and saucers to stick together, you can bake them together. Or you can bake
them separately so they are easy to separate. Allow to cool completely before
handling.
