Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best
baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Sheet each 1/8 bar Gray Granite and White Translucent through the pasta machine on
the thickest setting. Layer one on top of the other. Do not worry if the pieces
are not exactly the same size.

Step 3

Sheet each 1/8 bar Purple Pearl and Terra Cotta through the pasta machine on the
third thickest setting. Sheet 1/8 bar Purple on the second thickest setting.
Sheet 1/8 bar White on the fifth thickest setting.

Step 4

Now we will begin layering the color sheets on top of the stack of Gray Granite and
White Translucent.

Step 5

Keep adding colors.

Step 6

Add Purple Pearl.

Step 7

Add Purple.

Step 8

Tear away pieces of the sheets that are hanging off the sides of the original pieces
and pile the torn pieces up randomly on top.

Step 9

Sheet more White on the 5th setting. Place the thin White on the top of
the stack.

Step 10

Keep tearing away scrap pieces and pile them on top. The whole idea is to make a
pile of sheets of colors that is random.

Step 11

Roll over the whole stack with the Acrylic Roller. Apply pressure to flatten the
layers and press out any air bubbles.

Step 12

Divide the pile into fourths with a Clay Blade.

Step 13

Divide each 1/4 piece in half again to make eight pieces.

Step 14

Regroup the eight pieces randomly. Start with four on the bottom.

Step 15

Pile four more pieces on top across the bottom four.

Step 16

Roll firmly with the Clay Roller to seal the pieces together.

Step 17

Divide the stack into thirds.

Step 18

Then cut each third in half to make six pieces.

Step 19

Pile the pieces up randomly.

Step 20

Press with the roller just to seal them together.

Step 21

Push on all sides with your palms to make the whole slab more formed.

Step 22

Stand the slab on its side with the stripes perpendicular to the work surface. Slice
through the slab with a Clay Blade about 1/4” from the edge.

Step 23

Open the slab to reveal the cool faux stone look.

If you like the design that you see, you can proceed to turn this into a faux stone
pendant.

Step 24

Or if you like, you can slice another 1/4” slab to see if you prefer the next slice.
The slab will potentially make several pendants, so just pick out the slice
that you like best. We want the slice that we use to be about 1/4” thick so
that we can bevel the edges in the next steps.

Step 25

Choose a slab to proceed.
