Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

 Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together.  Wash hands after use.

 Baking:

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

From 1/16 bar of Bluestone make a little log 3/8” x 1”.

Step 3

Take a pinch of Cinnamon and pinch it very thinly - as thinly as possible.

Step 4

Press the thin Cinnamon to the side of the Bluestone log.

Roll the log until it is 1/4” thick and 3-1/4” long.

Step 5

Flatten two little discs of clay that are 1/2” in diameter. It doesn’t matter what color
this clay is. This will be the base of the Echeverias.

Step 6

Slice off 1/8” thick slices from the Cinnamon/Bluestone log.

Step 7

Flatten the slices to the side of the 12mm Ball Tool. Pinch the area where the Cinnamon is to a tip.

Step 8

Layer eight of these little curved and pinched leaves in a circle on top of one of the
bases.

Step 9

Mix very small amounts of Coastal Pearl and Bluestone 1:1 together to make Coastal Stone.

Roll Coastal Stone into a little log.

Repeat Steps 6 and 7 using the 6 mm Ball Tool to curve the petals.

Make six
of these and press them inside the larger outer petals.

Step 10

Make four little balls of Coastal Pearl and place them into the center of the
Echeveria.

Step 11

Use the 6 mm Ball Tool to seat these central petals into the middle curving them as you do.

Step 12

Add four more little petals of Coastal Pearl and use the 2mm Ball Tool to secure them
into place.

Step 13

Repeat for a second Echeveria.

Step 14

Bake the Echeverias following the baking instructions in Step 1 above.

Allow them to cool completely before handling.

Layout the pieces to assemble as earrings.

Step 15

Flip the Echeverias over and glue the ear posts as shown.

Allow to dry completely before handling.
