Sculpey Premo™ and Sculpey Soufflé™ Embossed Teardrop Marble Earrings

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake/cure clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6
mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking/curing; however please note that the
baking/curing times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take
longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE
MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

For the color proportions in this marbling technique, we will use 1/16 bar Ice Blue
Pearl, 1/16 bar White Gold Glitter, 1/32 bar Igloo, and 1/32 bar Ivory.

Chop up the colors into little bits with a Clay Blade and allow them to mix up randomly as you cut.

Gather the chips closely together loosely forming a square only about 1 single layer
thick.

Cover the top of the chips with a layer of silver composite leaf.

Press the leaf firmly to stick it to the clay chips. Roll it with the Acrylic Clay
Roller to smooth the leaf and the chips.

Divide the sheet in half.

Stack the two halves one on top of the other.

Compact the layered slab together with your fingertips.

Then cut it in half again.

Stack the layers together again. This is a look from the side of the slab where you
can see the layers of silver running through. Use hand pressure to make sure
all the little bits and the silver leaf are all really stuck together in the
slab.

Slice the slab open with the Clay Blade perpendicular to the silver stripes. Open the
slices up like a book.

Roll the slices flat and to around 1/8” thick (or less) with the Acrylic Clay Roller.
Make sure the slices are a size and shape to accommodate the Teardrop Cutter.

Dust the cutter heavily with corn starch to provide a release between the cutter and the clay.

Cut one teardrop shape from each slice of clay.

Roll the scrap clay into a ball.

Flatten the clay to a sheet 1/8” thick with the Acrylic Clay Roller.

Cut out two 1/2” circle shapes.

Position the circles above the teardrops.

Poke holes in the bottoms of the circles and the tops of the teardrops with the
Blunt Point Tool to provide holes for later assembly.

Bake all four pieces following the baking instructions for Sculpey Premo™.

Allow to cool completely before handling.

Here’s the layout for the earrings.

Attach the circles to the teardrops with jump rings using flat nose pliers.

Glue posts to the backs and allow the glue to dry completely.
