Project Instructions
    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 285 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 285°F (130 °C) for 20 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Make the following parts to assemble the Octopus:

Cut your block of Purple in half. Roll a large ball with one half of the clay for the head of the Octopus. Roll a snake with the other half that is approximately 1/2” thick and 6” long. Cut 8 equal sized pieces from this block for the legs. Set aside.

Roll two small balls of White clay approximately 1/8” for the eyes. Set aside.

Roll two tiny balls of Black clay for the pupils of the eyes. Set aside.

Roll two small Pink balls of clay approximately 1/8” in size for the cheeks. Roll 24 tiny balls of Pink for the suction cups. Set these aside.
Take the large Purple ball for the head and make it into a slight lightbulb shape. Take the eight leg pieces and point one end of each.
Take one of the legs and press three tiny Pink balls onto the leg starting at the top point. These are the suction cups that you will see when you curl the legs up later so make sure they are at the top. Continue this for each leg.
Press and attach the eight legs all around the octopus head now with the pink suction cups pointing down. Once the legs are attached you can curl the ends up.

Press the White eyes flat and attach for the eyes. Press the tiny Black balls onto the eyes for the pupils. Make a happy mouth with your clay knife. Flatten and press the two Pink balls on either side for the cheeks.

Bake according to directions above. Allow to cool.
