Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake/cure clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index
card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6
mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic
surfaces are also acceptable for baking/curing; however please note that the
baking/curing times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take
longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE
MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Roll a slab of clay each on the thickest setting in Rose Gold Metallic, White, and Thistle.

Step 3

Stack the slabs over each other. Condition the slab once on the third thinnest setting to get a long thin slab.

Step 4

Cut the slab into 5-6 sections and firmly stack them on each other.

Step 5

Use the needle tool to trace a design on the clay.

Use the knife end to trace over the design and make deep cuts through the slab to the bottom layer.

Step 6

Take the clay blade and shave off a few layers till you reach the look you want.

Trace the design with a needle tool to get a defined look.

Step 7

Trim off the excess with a clay blade.

Step 8

If the piece is too thick, freeze for 5-10 minutes and cut to make the slab thinner.

Repeat Steps 2-8 for the other earring

Step 9

Using a clay cutter, cut out two small squares with the scraps and make a simple design using the knife end and blunt point tool.

Bake/cure according to the information in Step 1 above.

Step 10

Use the Dremel to drill two small holes, one on the top of the main design and the bottom of the small square base.

Superglue an earring post to each small square base.

Step 11

Take the pliers and feed a jump ring through the holes to finish the earrings.

Step 10

Use the Dremel to drill two small holes, one on the top of the main design and the bottom of the small square base.
