Project Instructions

Step 1

Liquid Bakeable Medium:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Bakable Medium may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Getting Started:

-    Gently stir the bottle of liquid bakeable medium. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed.

- Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best).

Baking (also called Curing):

-    It is important to use an oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.

-    Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a preheated oven at 275 ºF (149 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (163 ºC) for Clear. Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-    If you are using the liquids as a glaze or in thin pieces less than ¼”, bake for 15 minutes.   For thicker pieces that are ¼” or above, bake for 30 minutes.

-    If you are baking on a ceramic tile, then you will also need to bake at 30 minutes since it will take longer for the tile to heat up. This will ensure the proper fusing of the liquid material.

-    When baking these liquids you may experience some vapors or a slight odor. This is not harmful and will not affect your creation.

-    If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either folding an index card in half and placing your project under it; or by using aluminum foil over your project.

Step 2

Fill the middle sized circle shape in the Cabochon Mold with Blue Liquid Sculpey®.
Tap the mold rapidly on the work surface to release air bubbles.

Step 3

Bake following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey® (LS). Allow to cool
completely before flexing the mold gently to release the baked shape.

Repeat Step 2 once again to make two middle sized round shapes in the Cabochon Mold.

Bake the second piece likewise.

Step 4

Place both of the de-molded cabochons back in the pre-heated oven, domed sides up, flat sides down, to warm them. This will take about 5-10 minutes.

Remove from the oven, and while the pieces are still hot on the hot baking sheet,
(Carefully!) use the tip of the Blunt Point Tool dipped in Light Orange LS to
place little dots on the surface of the cabochons. More LS on the tip will make
larger dots. Less LS on the tip will make smaller dots. If the dots do not set
up immediately on the cabochons, you may need to heat the cabochons again. The
small dots should cure almost instantly on the Blue cabochons.

Step 5

Repeat for the second cabochon.

Bake one more time following the complete baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey®.

After baking, if there is little bits of roughness around the edges you can trim it
away with small sharp scissors.

Step 6

Here is the layout for the earrings.

Drill a hole in the top of the cabochons for the jump rings assembly using a Dremel
tool, or spring drill, or pin drill.

Step 7

Use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump rings connecting the cabochons to
the ear post connectors.
