Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started with Liquid Sculpey®:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured Liquid Polymer Clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. - Stir Liquid Sculpey® completely. Thin with Sculpey® Liquid Clay Softener as needed - Wash hands after use (we have found that baby wipes work best)

-It is important to use oven thermometer when you bake the liquids so that you can ensure your oven is at the correct temperature.

-Do not microwave the liquids. They must be baked in a Preheated oven at 275 ºF (130 ºC) for liquid colors and 300 ºF (149 ºC) for Clear – Do not exceed baking temperatures.

-If your piece is less than 1/4” bake for 15 minutes. For thicker pieces that are 1/4” or above bake for 30 minutes.

-If your liquid project has become yellowed or discolored in the oven, when you remake it, tent it by placing either – folding an index card in half and placing your project under it by using aluminum foil over your project.

Step 2

Cover the bottom of the zodiac sign that you wish to use in the Zodiac mold with Blue Gray Metallic Liquid Sculpey (LS). Make sure the post is completely surrounded by LS and that the details of the sign are bubble free. You may find it helpful to use a toothpick to move the LS around in the mold to release air bubbles.

Tapping the mold on the work surface also helps to release air bubbles.

Once you feel confident that the design surface of the mold is free of bubbles, fill it to level with more LS.

Step 3

For shallow molds I like to use a steam baking technique. Fold a dish cloth into a flat pad. Dampen the towel and wring as much water out as possible. Then flatten the pad on top of the baking tray. Carefully place the mold on top of the damp cloth. Bake following the baking instructions for Liquid Sculpey. The cool damp pad will help the mold bake more evenly resulting in a flat molded piece without warping during baking.

Step 4

Allow the mold to cool completely before flexing it gently to release the piece.

Use the tip of a gold paint marker to fill in the design areas of the zodiac symbol.

Step 5

The excess paint can be removed with a paper towel or with a paper towel dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Step 6

Here’s the layout for the Keychain.

Step 7

Attach the star charms to the chain on the split ring using flat nose pliers.

Use flat nose pliers to attach the zodiac to the chain with the large jump ring.

Step 8

Make sure all jump rings are closed securely.
