Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Surface: For the best results in sculpting and crafting with air dry clay, plan to work with a smooth, well-cleaned, non-porous surface.

Amount: Because the clay is made to air-dry, try to open only what you need at the time and leave the rest still wrapped or sealed and stored. Pinch or cut off the amount you need and take more out as you go, even for larger projects.

Working: Knead your clay before you begin shaping it for your creations. Our polymer clay is already soft and pliable, but warming the clay with your hands is a good practice to spread the substance, condition the material and get a feel for what you’re working with.

Shaping: You can use a combination of your hands, crafting tools and multimedia materials to shape your clay into the design you desire, create unique patterns and textures and incorporate mixed media elements.

Drying: Lay or stand your air dry clay projects on a nonporous surface with a clean and smooth finish in an area with low humidity. Let the projects remain untouched and undisturbed for about 24 hours to ensure complete hardening.

Remember: You can create anything you can imagine! Just make sure the finished
product is exactly what you want before allowing it to dry.

Step 2

Roll conditioned Air Dry Clay to a sheet 3/16” maximum thickness.

Step 3

Make a paper template of the size banner you want to produce. Lay the paper template on the clay and use the Blade to cut out the shape from the Air Dry clay. Smooth cut edges with fingertips dipped in water.

Step 4

Use a ball tipped tool to make a hole in the top corners and one in the bottom. Dip the tip of the tool in water before poking holes. Poke the hole first from the front and then from the back to make them nice and neat.

Make sure the holes that you poke are large enough to accommodate the yarn or cord at the top and the jump ring at the bottom. You can make holes larger by dipping tools in water and then carefully reaming the holes slightly larger.

Step 5

Make a little mask from paper or card stock to cover the area where your message will later go. Lay the mask gently on top of the clay.

Dip the 2 mm Ball Tool into water and make little divots around the message area. Dipping your tools in water will keep all the dots neat and tidy.

After making the little divots, remove the mask.

Allow the sign to dry overnight. Since this is a flat sign, it may tend to curve as top side dries more quickly than the bottom. Carefully flip the sign over when you start to see it curving so that it will flatten back down and the other side will dry equally. Check the sign periodically during the drying time. You may need to flip it over more than once to keep it drying flat.

Step 6

When the sign is completely dry, carefully letter your message in the middle with paint markers. Allow to dry completely before moving forward to the next steps.

Step 7

The tassel will be attached at the bottom hole with a large jump ring.

Step 8

Use flat nose pliers to open and close the jump ring attaching the tassel to the bottom hole.

String the top two holes with cord or yarn to make the hanger. Use enough cord to make the hanger as long as you would like. Secure by tying a knot in the loop behind the sign.

Step 9

Use paint markers to add color to the divots. Allow paint to dry completely before handling.
