5 Things You Can Make With Polymer Clay That Aren't Jewelry

By: Precious Nunez

When most people think about polymer clay, they might immediately think of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or other types of jewelry. Polymer clay is great for making jewelry, but there is so much more you can create with it.

One of my favorite things about polymer clay is how versatile it is. You can make something small and decorative, create something to display around your home, or turn your favorite ideas into little keepsakes.

If you have some polymer clay sitting around (begging to bb\e used! and want to try something different, here are five ideas that go beyond jewelry.

Magnets

Polymer clay magnets are a fun way to turn small clay creations into something you can actually use around your home. You can make almost anything into a magnet. Think about your favorite foods, flowers, animals, characters, or even little everyday objects. Because magnets are usually small, they are also a great way to try out a new idea without committing to a larger project.

They can also make fun gifts because you can create something based on the person you are giving it to. A favorite food, pet, hobby, or color can all become a small piece of art they can put on their refrigerator or magnetic board.

Ornaments

Polymer clay ornaments are another fun way to turn your creations into something you can display.

You can make ornaments for the holidays, but they don't have to be limited to Christmas. You could create ornaments inspired by your favorite season, a special occasion, your favorite animals, or even something that represents a hobby.

One of the things I like about making ornaments is that they can become little keepsakes. You can make one to remember a special trip, celebrate a new home, or mark a favorite memory. They are also a great opportunity to experiment with different shapes and themes. You can keep them simple or add lots of little details to make each one feel unique.

Figurines and Mini Sculptures

If you enjoy sculpting with polymer clay, you don't need to make everything wearable or attachable.

Figurines and small sculptures are a great way to let an idea stand on its own.

You can make animals, characters, food, plants, little creatures, or anything else you can imagine. This is also a fun way to give yourself more freedom with your designs because you don't have to think about adding hardware or making sure the piece works as jewelry.

You can create a single little figure or start a collection. Maybe you want to make a group of tiny animals, a collection of desserts, or a little scene with several different characters.

Desk and Room Decor

Polymer clay can also be a fun way to add some personality to the spaces around you.

You can make small decorative pieces for a desk, shelf, or other area of your home. Think about little sculptures, decorative signs, miniature objects, or other pieces that fit your style.

This is where you can really have fun with your favorite colors and themes. If you love pastel colors, you could create a soft and colorful collection. If you prefer something more simple, you could stick with a smaller color palette.

You can also make pieces that match the things you already have around your space. A little clay flower next to your plants or a tiny food sculpture on a kitchen shelf can make an ordinary space feel a little more personal.

Keepsakes and Personalized Creations

Some of the most meaningful things you can make with polymer clay are pieces that have a personal connection. Think about making something that represents a favorite memory, a special place, a hobby, a pet, or something that is important to you. It could be a miniature version of a meaningful object or simply a design inspired by something you love.

Polymer clay is a great medium for this because you can make something uniquely yours. Instead of looking for an item that already exists, you can create something that matches exactly what you had in mind. These types of pieces can also make thoughtful gifts. You can create something based on a person's favorite things and give them a little reminder of something they love.

There Is More to Polymer Clay Than Jewelry

Jewelry is just one of the many things you can make with polymer clay. Once you think beyond earrings and necklaces, the possibilities are endless.

Try making a magnet, an ornament, a little figurine, or something for your desk. You can even make something that has no purpose other than making you smile when you see it. The best part is that you don't have to stick to just one type of project. You can experiment with different ideas and see what you enjoy making the most.

So the next time you reach for your polymer clay, think beyond jewelry. You might find a whole new type of project that you love.
