Getting Started Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Cut the package of Souffle Pistachio into 3 pieces. Roll each piece through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine set on the #1 setting. Put two of the pieces together and roll through to create a long, thin sheet of clay about 7 inches in length. Place this on your work surface (If white paper is used for this the clay will not stick to it) and set the bracelet blank on one end of the clay sheet. Use the Super Slicer to trim the clay to the short end of the bracelet. Slowly roll the bracelet to wrap the clay around it. Trim the clay at the opposite short end of the bracelet.
Slowly and smoothly slide the Super Slicer blade along the edge of the bracelet blank to trim the excess clay from one side of the bracelet. Repeat on the other side.
Retrieve the excess clay and roll it through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine with the third piece of clay to create another long piece of clay and repeat steps 1 and 2 to add a second layer of clay to the bracelet blank. Make sure that there is no clay on the inside of the blank.
Roll about 1/3 of the package of the Sea Glass clay through the Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine on the #1 setting. Place this sheet of clay on the smooth tile and use the tear drop cutter to punch out several pieces. The clay should stick to the tile, but if it comes up in the cutter, use the eraser side of a pencil to gently push it out.
Repeat this with the Mai Tai color. You will need 33 pieces of both the Mai Tai and Sea Glass colors. There is no need to make them all at once, a dozen at a time of each color will work.
Squeeze a little of the Bake and Bond onto a discarded clay wrapper and lightly touch the contact edge of each piece into the adhesive before placing on the bracelet. Start in the middle, or at one end of the bracelet. Alternate the colors as shown, leaving no room between the pieces. The pieces overlap just slightly in the center and extend over the edge of the bracelet. NOTE: handle the bracelet by the metal blank inside, not by the clay!
Repeat steps 5-7 to cover the entire bracelet. It really doesn't take that long! Carefully place the bracelet onto the edge of your selected heavy mug when you cannot hold it or you need to punch some more pieces.
With the bracelet securely hanging from the edge of the heavy mug, set it aside. Roll a small piece of the Mai Tai clay out on the #1 setting and place it on the tile. Dip the Etch and Pearl in a small dish of water (a plastic water bottle cap is PERFECT) and press firmly into the sheet of clay. Repeat 33 times, peeling the remaining sheet of clay up from the tile and leaving the “pearlsâ€.
Slide the corner edge of the Super Slicer under a “pearlâ€ to pick it up. Roll it lightly between your fingers to remove any rough edges. Dip a toothpick into the Bake and Bond and add a small dot to the bottom of the “pearlâ€. Position each “pearlâ€ on the edge of the bracelet between the Sea Glass pieces, making sure that you don't cover the metal of the bracelet blank.
Repeat step 10 with the Sea Glass clay and add those pearls to the Mai Tai side of the bracelet.
Position the completed bracelet in the coffee cup and bake in a preheated oven according to the directions above. Once the clay is baked and cooled, gently pop the bracelet off the blank and you are DONE!
Got a few cutter pieces left? You can make a ring. Roll out Pistachio on the #1 setting on the clay conditioning machine. Press the ring blank down on the sheet of clay and cut around it. Press the circle into the ring finding. Place 7 cut out pieces of Mai Tai around the edges of the ring in a flower shape. Press a Sea Glass pearl in the center. Bake according to the directions above.
