    Project Instructions

    Your Workspace:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

    Getting Started:
Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Roll the conditioned Hazelnut clay out on the #1 (widest) setting on the Clay Conditioning Machine. Lightly spray the wood texture pattern and use the Acrylic roller to press the texture into the clay.
Place this textured clay on the smooth ceramic tile and position the largest heart template on the clay. Use the craft knife to cut out the clay. Set aside.
Repeat step 1 with the Sweet Potato clay and the Sunburst texture pattern. Place the textured sheet of clay on the smooth ceramic tile and position the medium heart template and use the craft knife to cut out the heart.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the Buried Treasure clay and your selected texture. Use the smallest heart template.
Layer the three hearts together, gently folding and rolling edges to create a more 3-dimensional pendant.
Add a pair of rivets at the top to later suspend the pendant (clear the clay out of the center of the rivets) and a couple of decorative brads to the composition.
Bake according to the directions above in Step 1 and allow the pendant to cool completely.
Once the pendant is baked and cooled, flood the surface with a mixture of the dark grey and dark green paints. Quickly wipe the top texture surfaces with a damp paper towel. Do one section at a time to ensure that all areas get painted.
While the paint is still damp, quickly wipe a small amount of Gold Pearl Ex powder on the Sweet Potato and Buried Treasure hearts to add a metallic highlight. Allow the paint to dry.
Using a small paint brush, paint in some verdigris highlights with the light green paint. Thread several beads onto the copper wire and attach the wire through the two top rivets. Bend the wire with the beads with your fingers in a similar heart shape and add some of the light green paint to add a verdigris effect. Attach the matching chain.
