step 1

Your workspace:Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.Getting Started:Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.Baking:Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

step 2

Roll out half the package of Jewelry Gold on the #1 setting of the Clay Conditioning Machine. Place this layer on the ceramic tile or piece of glass. Press the selected tag template gently into place and use the craft knife to cut out the shape. Remove the template and the excess clay.

step 3

Squeeze a small amount of each paint color onto a used clay wrapper (they make great small palettes!). Put a small amount of the paint on the brush and lightly brush onto the piece of sponge. Press the sponge against a sheet of scrap paper and then press lightly onto the clay tag. Repeat with both colors until you are satisfied with the background colors.

step 4

Use the large Etch N” Pearl tool to punch out the hole for the tag. Set aside for baking later.

step 5

Pinch off a small amount of the Hazelnut clay and roll out into a small snake. Gently pull off pieces to build the tree branches. Once you have your design established, use the small ball tool to texture the branches and press the seams together. Lightly sprinkle with the white (or light) embossing powder if desired.

step 6

Roll out about 1/3 package of the Tranquility on the #1 setting on the Clay Conditioning Machine. Place this sheet of clay on the smooth tile or sheet of glass and press the bird template into place. Trace the template with the craft blade.

step 7

Use your finger to gently press and round the edges of the bird.

step 8

Sprinkle the bird with the bright green and orange embossing powders if desired. Set aside for baking.

step 9

Pinch off a tiny amount of Sweet Potato clay and roll into a ball a little smaller than a pea. Flatten the ball between your thumb and forefinger. Use the edge of the rubber stylus on the ball tool to press petals into the edge of the flattened clay. Use the medium ball tool to press a dent in the center of the flower. Add a small ball of Tranquility to the dent and use the small ball tool to emboss the dent. Repeat to make two or three flowers.

step 10

Bake all the components of the tag as directed above in Step 1. Once the pieces have cooled, add musical tape (or paper), trimming to fit the tag. Add all the rest of the baked design elements, gluing each piece into place.
