Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. Liquid polymer clay is just as the name suggests — a liquid version of polymer clay! Liquid clay is highly revered by clayers worldwide and is as important in some studios as the clay itself.

How Does Liquid Polymer Clay Differ From Clay?

Liquid polymer clay bakes similarly to regular clay but can be more flexible than its solid counterpart. Polymer clay — the kind we're all familiar with — is made from polyvinyl chloride particles suspended in a plasticizer. Fillers and binders are then added to turn it into a dough. Liquid polymer clay is very similar in composition to this clay, except that it does not have the binders and fillers.

Curing Liquid Sculpey® with heat will make the PVC particles fuse and lock with the plasticizer to form a solid mass.

How to Use Liquid Polymer Clay

With liquid clay, you can make truly unique designs that you wouldn't otherwise achieve with regular polymer clay. Plus, once you get the hang of Liquid Sculpey® Translucent and other liquid clays, you can use it alongside solid clay for other unique projects.

Here are just a few ideas for how to use Liquid Sculpey®:

  • Use in oven safe silicone molds to make pieces for jewlery and home decor projects
  • Trace on glass to create mirror and window clings
  • Fill metal bezels for unique jewelry looks
  • Use as a glaze on clay creations

Liquid Sculpey® Translucent vs. Liquid Sculpey® Clear

Sculpey® offers both Liquid Sculpey® Translucent and clear liquid clay. The difference between the two comes down to how much light is allowed through. With Liquid Sculpey® Translucent, you will see light pass through the clay, but it is limited and reveals images that are blurred and not entirely clear. Clear liquid clay, on the other hand, is completely see-through.
