Project Instructions

Step 1

Getting Started:

Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area
appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly
together.  Wash hands after use.

Baking (also called Curing):

Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such as metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) of thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.

Step 2

Match a circle cutter to the same size as the bezel.

Step 3

Sheet White clay to a sheet that is slightly thicker than the open area in the bezel.

Cut out a circle from the clay with the cutter that matches the bezel size.

Lay the clay in the bezel.

Step 4

Smooth the surface of the clay in the bezel by placing a piece of deli paper or even a
clean piece of copy paper over the top of the clay. Burnish with your
fingertips or the Clay Roller.

Step 5

Use the circle cutter to locate an area on the transfer sheet that you wish to
highlight in the pendant design.

Step 6

Trace the area around the cutter with a pencil.

Step 7

Cut the traced area out of the transfer sheet with scissors removing the pencil line.

Step 8

Place the transfer design face down on the clay.

Burnish it down firmly with the Roller.

Step 9

Dampen a sponge with water and saturate the back of the transfer paper really well. You should be able to see the design through the paper. It is important that the paper be fully saturated with water.

Blot excess water from the paper backing with the sponge.

Step 10

When the paper starts to slide on the clay it is time to remove the backing. Allow the clay to dry, do not wipe or rub it as the transfer can smear at this stage.

Step 11

Bake the bezel with the clay in it following the baking directions for Premo™ Sculpey.

Allow to cool completely before handling.

Step 12

Carefully pop the baked clay piece out of the bezel. Glue it back in permanently with
silicone glue or instant drying glue. Allow glue to dry completely.
