Getting started: Do not use unbaked clay on unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Good work surfaces include wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275 degrees F (130 C) for 15 minutes per ¼” (6mm) thickness. For best baking results, use and oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 degrees F (130 C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the clay dedicated pasta machine several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Roll a ball of Magic Glitter approximately 2” in diameter.
Roll into and oval shape. Squeeze the clay at on end and start to form a neck and simple head shape. Once the head and neck are formed flip over to the bottom and use the side of your paintbrush to make 4 quadrants. Each quadrant will be a leg. Gently pull and shape the legs.Continue to smooth and shape the figure until you are pleased. Place the body on a flat surface and position the legs so that the unicorn is standing well and evenly.
Roll two small balls of Magic Glitter approximately ¼” in size. Flatten and shape in teardrop ear shapes. Attach the ears to the head. Use the end of your paintbrush to make indentations in each ear.
Roll a small ball of Shine On Glitter approximately ¼” in size. Roll into a cone shape and twist for the horn. Attach to the head using a drop of Liquid Sculpey to keep it secure.
Roll long think snakes of Fantasy Pearl, Cloud Pearl, Cotton Candy Pearl, and Confetti Glitter. Cut 1” pieces from each snake. Point one end of each of these pieces in all colors. Use these pieces to make a rainbow mane and tail for the unicorn.
Attach randomly, alternating colors. Trim pieces to make shorter if need be. Use a bit of Sculpey Bake 7 Bond on the pieces to make them extra secure. For the tail take one of each color and press them gently together. Twist the colors and form a point at one end. Flatten the other end of the tail so you can attach it to the rear end of your unicorn. Attach with some Liquid Sculpey.
Once you are happy with your unicorn, bake according to directions. Allow to cool.To make your unicorn smoother use 400grit wet/dry sandpaper under some running water. Sand the body in circular motions being careful of the mane and tail as those pieces will be a bit more fragile. When finished pat dry with a paper towel.Use your acrylic paints to paint a sweet face on the unicorn. If desired paint the hooves Gold.
