    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Using half a block each of Raspberry and Grape clay make a skinner blend of these colors. To make a skinner blend, make a teardrop shape of each color and press them together in a Yin Yang formation. Flatten slightly and run through the clay machine on the #1 setting. Fold the sheet upwards and run through the clay machine again inserting the folded end into the machine first. Repeat this process over and over until you have an evenly blended sheet of clay. For the final pass run the entire sheet through the clay machine on the #3 setting.
Lay your sheet on some waxed paper. Using the four different sized circle clay cutters cut the following: 6 small 1/2” sized circles in the top Raspberry section. Four 3/4” circles in the next gradated section.  Five 1” circles in the next darker gradated section. Five 1 1/4“ circles in the Grape section.
Set the remaining skinner blend aside. Now you are ready to assemble the rose. As you work with the circles for petals smooth and press them flat so they are more lifelike. You can also add some fine vertical lines with you 5 in 1 tool if you wish. Roll one of the small 1/2” Raspberry petals into a spiral. Pinch the base of this so you have something to hold when adding additional petals. You will build your rose off of this center. Next add two 1/2” petals opposite one another. Next add the remaining three of the smallest petals to your rose.
Add the four next sized petals (3/4”) to your rose placing them slightly overlapping one another.
Add the five next 1” sized petals to the rose and then finish up with the remaining 5 largest petals. Shape, fan and bend the petals until you are happy with the results. Cut off the pinched base that has formed so the rose can lay flat. Set aside.
to make the leaf run 1/2" to 3/4" of a block of Jade through the clay machine on the #2 setting. Cut out a leaf shape using a leaf template you created. Smooth the edges. Use your 5 in 1 tool to make veins in the leaf. Use your fingers to gently curl up the edges of the leaf.
Add a bit of Sculpey Bake n Bond to the end of the leaf where the rose is going and attach the rose. Use one of your incense sticks and press it into the center of your rose at an angle so that the ashes will fall into the leaf when it is burning. Remove the incense stick before baking.
Bake according to the directions on the package. Allow to cool. Dry brush just a touch of White or a matching Light Jade color paint on the edges and sections of the leaf to give it a little depth. Allow to dry.
