Project Instructions

    Getting Started:
Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven-Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately.

Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use.

    Baking:
Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Clay Mat at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
From 1/4 bar of Cinnamon, roll a very long skinny rope 1/8” thick.
Bend the rope in half and twist it tightly beginning at one end and working your way to the other end. The more tightly you twist the rope, the thinner it will become.
From 1/4 bar of Cinnamon, sheet the clay to 1/8” thick. Make sure you have enough clay to cover the entire design. I used my cutters to lightly mark the clay to make sure there was enough clay for all of the pieces. Initially, I thought my design would use two different sizes of the squares. However, you can see from the finished photos that I ended up using only two of the .75” squares.
Lay the ropes on top of the sheeted clay closely together over the area where the squares are marked. Make sure the sides of the ropes touch and that they are well stuck to the sheeted clay background.
Continue with the ropes until the shapes are covered.
Cut out two of the .75” squares. Determine how best to assemble the pieces with your findings. Poke holes accordingly for later assembly.

For my design, the hole will run horizontally through the top of the squares turning the squares to diamonds. For this same look, poke a hole horizontally through the sides of the diamonds with the Needle Tool near the top point. Bake the pieces following the baking instructions in Step 1 above.
Assemble the earrings as shown. Connect the 8 mm jump rings through the holes at the top of the diamonds. I used three of the small jump rings to connect the diamond clay shapes to the metal triangles so that the diamonds would not slide back and forth as much. Connect the large metal diamonds to the ear wires with 4mm jump rings. Then dangle the triangles from the metal diamonds with a series of 4 mm jump rings so that they hang the right direction.
