Getting StartedPolymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey clay mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult.Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
– Cut corners from each color as shown. Squeeze colors together. Form log and begin twisting. Fold in half and twist together, repeat until the blend is to your liking. Flatten slightly on one side and send thru conditioning machine on the thickest setting.
Drag piercing tool thru sheet creating varying depths of lines to create bark texture. Hot tip from Amy : leave the bits of clay that gather on tip on tool in places to create more ‘natural’ look and feel of bark.
Use remaining clay or scrap clay in coordinating colors for bracelet band base. Put thru conditioning machine on the thickest setting and cut a 7in strip. Place strip on form. Cut and smooth down edges. Set aside.
Make a 2nd strip on the number 2 setting. Cut as before and place on parchment. Make an 8in strip. Place on parchment paper. Measure and lightly mark center.
On the left side of your bark material, cut with a 1 ¼ in Premo round cutter. Place beads as shown. Take a small piece of bark blend and roll a bit thinner for eyelids. Cut out with 3/4in cutter, cut in half. Lay one piece on top and one on bottom over beads, leaving bead partially showing, and smooth & add texture back.
Form facial features as desired and retexture as shown. Tip : Form rounded cone shape in the size you wish for nose.
Marble blend green clays together. Roll 2 small pieces into cone shape, same as the nose. Place for eyebrows. Texture to look like moss. Set aside
Add texture to the 2nd strip you created. Add snakes of your blend for more texture. Apply second strip to unbaked base. No adhesive is needed. Trim. Add texture on sides.
Using Bake n’ Bond. place face in center of cuff. Bake at 275 for 1 hour. Take your new friend Woody out for a walk and collect the compliments.
