Getting Started:Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Roll the clay flat to about 3/16” thick. Use the 1.75” oval cutter to cut out the shape for the pendant.
Collect some twigs from trees, bushes, or plants. Emboss the twigs into the clay one at a time. When removing the twigs, be careful that they don’t break off in the clay. If pieces of twig do get stuck in the clay, carefully remove it with tweezers.
Use more twig pieces to make the embossing look like a little tree. Always line the twigs up with the center so your little tree has a central trunk. Keep pressing in twigs to fill up the space and make it look like a tree.
Poke a hole with a toothpick at the top of the tree for the cord. You can make the hole bigger by twirling the toothpick around carefully in the hole. Set the pendant piece aside for now.
For the bracelet, use the 1.5” oval cutter. Poke a hole in each end of the bracelet piece.
Gently bend the piece across a coffee cup so it has a nice bend that will fit onto your mom’s wrist nicely.
Emboss the tree design with the twigs as you did above
Use your finger to dab gold paint onto both the pendant and the bracelet pieces. Only get the paint on the raised areas, not in the embossed tree design. Keep dabbing the paint on until it is opaque. Allow the paint to dry before you go onto the next step.
Add heat set rhinestones as desired to the tree design. Bake as directed above. Bake the bracelet piece on the mug so it stays curved. When the pendant is completely cool, fold the 24” cord in half and push the doubled end through the hole at the top threading the cut ends through the loop.
Lay the pendant cord in the narrow ribbon crimp so that the end extends past the little loop on the crimp at least 1/2”. Smash one side of the crimp down over the cord with pliers.
Smash the other side of the crimp over with pliers too. Trim the excess cord away with scissors so that the little loop is sticking out again.
Add the loop end of the clasp and the larger jump ring to one of the ribbon crimps. Add the toggle end and the smaller jump ring to the other ribbon crimp.
Cut the 14” cord into two 7” lengths. Fold a length in half and put the folded end through one of the bracelet piece holes, looping the cut ends through the loop and pulling tight. Repeat with the other 7” length through the other hole.
Smash the two ends of one side of the cord into a wide ribbon crimp with pliers. Repeat on the other side
Add the loop end of the clasp and the larger jump ring to one of the ribbon crimps. Add the toggle end and the smaller jump ring to the other ribbon crimp.
