Preheat oven to 275 °F. Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. Condition all clay by kneading until it’s soft and smooth or running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.

ALL FIGURES FACIAL FEATURESUsing 3/8” circle cutter, press ½ if it into the face for the mouth. Using the 1/8” heart press at each corner of the mouth. Caulk the hearts with pink. Press 2 black seed beads above the mouth for the eyes. Use the Needle Tool to add expression. Press 5/64” ball in middle of face for the nose
MARYMake body and arms from Lt. Blue Pearl, Press arms onto the body cone. Add the hands on the ends of the arms. Press the head on top the body. Make Blue headdress, drape over the head, and fold in sides and top of the headdress on the back of the figure. Extrude Gold clay into 6” lengths. Wrap extruded Gold snake around head for headband, and wrap a piece around the waist for belt.
BABY JESUS5/16” ball (White), shape into a ½” oval, ¼” ball for the head (Beige). Press head onto the top of the white oval. Add a gold halo on top of the head. Press Baby Jesus into the front of Mary. Wrap her arms around the baby. No facial features.
JOSEPHMake body and arms from medium brown clay (Chocolate and White clay mixed). Press arms into the body cone. Add hands to the arms. Extrude Chocolate clay and twist two-piece together to make a rope. Wrap around body for belt. Cut two 1 ½” strip of Blue. Place down the front of the body. Press head on to the body. Make Chocolate headdress, drape over the head, and fold in sides and top of the headdress on the back of the figure. Add rope around the headdress. Add a cane made from a 3” piece of copper wire, to the front Joseph wrap arms to the front and around the cane. The Shepard’s are made the same way using other colors. Sweet Potato, Yellow.
KINGSFor the items that each king is hold. Coin chest: make a ½” ball of Chocolate, press into a square. Add coins cut from gold clay rolled at #4 setting on your Clay Conditioning Machine and cut with 1/8” circle cutter. Bottles: one is made from Translucent clay and one from Copper Clay; roll a 7/16” ball and shape into a bottle shape. Add a 1/8” ball for the top of each bottle. Make two different skin shades for two of the kings. One takes ½” ball of Chocolate and ½” ball of White to make one skin shade. Add more White to lighten for another skin shade. Use straight Beige for the other king. Make bodies the same as other figures, Use the Pearl clays for the kings. Collars cut ¾” and 1” circles. The one king’s headpiece is made from a ¾” circle and Gold rope wrapped around the circle and let one end of the rope drape to the shoulder. Add a 1/8” ball of Gold in the center. Twisting 3 different clay extrusions, twisted together and wrapped around the head make another headpiece. Headdress #3 is made by twisting 2 shades of Purple together, they are approx ¼” thick.
LAMBSBody: 5/16” ball, head 7/32” ball, muzzle (black) 1/8” ball, feet (black) ¼” thick snake cut into four ¼” pieces. Ears clay rolled out on #4 setting cut 2- 1/8” ovals. You can create White and Elephant Gray or black lambs. Make 6 to 9 lambs.
BAKINGBake all figures according to package directions. While figures are baking paint the wooden bases with tan paint. When figures are cooled glue to wooden bases. Holy Family to one, Shepard’s to one and the Kings on one. Use the E 6000 glue.
