    Project Instructions

Getting Started:Polymer clay may stain. CLAY MAY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED FURNITURE OR FINISHED SURFACES. DO NOT USE polymer clay on unprotected surfaces. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Work ‘n Bake Clay Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Start with clean hands and work surface area. Knead clay until soft and smooth. For best results, clean your hands in between colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces together firmly. Bake on oven-proof glass or metal surface at 275°F (130 °C) for 15 minutes per ¼" (6 mm) thickness. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. Wash hands after use. Baking should be completed by an adult. Begin by preheating oven to 275 °F (130 °C). Test temperature with oven thermometer for perfectly cured clay. For best results, condition all clay by running it through the Clay Conditioning Machine for several passes on the widest setting. Fold the clay in half after each pass and insert the fold side into the rollers first.
Sheet each color through the clay conditioning machine on the #1 setting (1/8”). Trim out equal amounts of each color. You will only need a 2” square of each color.
Stack the colors with Pearl in the middle.
Roll over the stack with the Acrylic Clay Roller until the stack is about 3” X 3”. Section the stack into fourths and re-stack them as shown.
Roll over the stack with the Acrylic Clay Roller until the stack is about 3” X 4”. Section the stack in half and re-stack as shown. This rectangle piece should be large enough to accommodate the largest heart template.
Use the 6mm ball tool to press a design into the stack. Make the divots about 1/8” deep.
Slice through the textured layer with the Super Slicer, removing a thin layer about 1/16” thick.
You should now have a thin layer of removed clay and a thicker layer. Set these pieces aside for now.
Sheet Pearl through the clay conditioning machine on the #3 setting. Use the knife tool and the larger curved heart template to cut out the heart shape.
With round jewelry pliers, bend each end of the wire into curls. Test the length against the Pearl heart shape. The curls should just extend past the edges of the heart on both ends as pictured. Gently press the wire into the clay so it is slightly embedded.
From the thin sheet of patterned clay, using the blade, cut out the smaller curved heart shape. Layer the smaller heart over the wire and centered in the Pearl heart holding the wire in place. Referring to the finished photo, decorate the outside edges of the Pearl heart with the 2mm ball tool.
Use the Acrylic Clay Roller to smooth the surface of the thicker patterned clay stack. Make sure the stack is large enough to accommodate the largest heart template. If it is not quite large enough you can roll it with the roller to stretch it.
From the thick sheet of patterned clay, using the blade, cut out the largest heart shape. Poke a hole with the needle tool in the top area of the heart for a jump ring to be inserted later. Bake the hearts as directed above and allow to cool completely
After the hearts are completely cool, attach the large heart, the large ring, the ring of the clasp, and the top curl of the Pearl heart with the large jump ring. Attach the copper heart charm to the large ring with the small jump ring. Attach one side of the clasp to each end of the chain with the 8mm jump rings. String the bar end of the clasp through the circle end of the clasp and enjoy!
